I'm sorry. I actually thought I'd get an email in case of a PM but I haven't. That tiny "1 New" on the top of the page is just a bit too tiny. ;)

Re: Qualcomm WAN not working

2011-03-18, 5:21 AM

JameZ,

Well its almost been 5 months since your comments about my screen being a known issue making the Gobi WWAN USELESS.

I got tired of waiting for the so-called fix being worked on and removed the Gobi all together, I further replaced my Intel 6300 wireless with a 6250 so I would have WiMax ability.

WOW it worked...............

Kind of.. ALMOST EVERY OTHER boot, I am the same problem I had with the Gobi, the WiMax is unknown USB device and not showing up in the device manage - (maybe this can give some insight to the problem not that is not isolated to gobi but its related to WIFI.... ?)

So I have to reboot the machine until it comes up properly, this has gone on too long without any sign of a fix. My $900 HP notebook from Sams club never had the problems this HIGH end Lenovo has given me.

What exactly is the problem, I can't believe it is this difficult to fix, or rather since this thread went quiet for a few months, I think we all just got ignored as we all weren't constantly complaining?

Well I am complaining now, and I will make sure to keep this thread alive at least every few days. I am sick of Lenovo's lack of SUPPORT. This is beyond ridiculous.

Kind Regards,

Jasen

Re: w510 BSOD

I and a few colleagues got the W510 last August. None of us were able to get the Gobi working, and we have been following this and other threads regarding this issue ever since. We have tried all the driver and firmware updates, and have seen the same telltale signs of the card appearing and disappearing in device manager.

The fact that Lenovo/Qualcomm have been unable to fix this with problem for more than 6 months is a clear sign that they do not have the necessary skills needed to sell laptops in the enterprise range, and perhaps should focus on consumer products instead.

If anyone ask me what I think of my Lenovo laptop when I am in customer meetings I always make sure to mention that the 3G option does not work and that Lenovo seems unable or unvilling to fix it.

Does Lenovo have any customers at all which have been able to get the Gobi 2000 working on the W510 running Windows 7? I would be surprised if they claim to have any.

Regards.

Hi,

finally I got my T410 back from support. They didn't get the Gobi2000 working, so they installed a new Board. It seems (at least in my case) the Gobi wasn't the problem, the T410 itself has been faulty.

Regards

@ggggxxxxgggg:

> The fact that Lenovo/Qualcomm have been unable to fix this with problem for more than 6 months

Let's be honest here, please. It's almost been a year since I got my ThinkPad and the first post of this thread is from February 2010 (although the bug was a slightly different and a more severe one back then).

> Does Lenovo have any customers at all which have been able to get the Gobi 2000 working on the W510 running Windows 7?

Obviously, they have. (Just take a look at the previous 22 pages of this thread and you'll notice that quite a few people have become silent since the last driver update.)

However, there're still some of us whose problems haven't been solved so far (including you and me)…

I am currently discussing with JameZ what options there are to finally get rid of the issues. (Which is obviously coming down to sending in my ThinkPad. >_>) YET, my problems seem to be a bit special and different from all the other people's "it simply doesn't work"-issue. Thus, I recommend you also discuss with JameZ how to proceed (and send it in).

@VoHiWa: That's the first time I ever noticed you were talking about a T410 the whole time. No offense, mate, but you did notice that this whole thread is about a W510-specific issue, didn't you? ;) You shocked me quite a bit when I read that hardware replacement had actually worked for you…

Anyway, I'm glad your problem was solved. :)

Re: w510 BSOD

I wanted to update the thread about my W510/GOBI issue.  So after replacing the Gobi card the problem still persisted. The next day the tech showed back up at my office with a new motherboard.  I'm happy to say that it fixed the problem.

So if anyone else is having an issue with their W510 and the Gobi card not powering on the radio it may be your motherboard.

You may have to go through 15 hours of BS troubleshooting with 8 different people on the phone, but if you stick with it Lenovo will finally get it fixed.

Hope this helps someone.

Good luck!

@mabshire: What kind of problem did you have exactly? What do you mean by "To my suprise I can not power on the card" in your first post?

As for me: Although Gobi initially worked after the update, I haven't been able to get it do so for quite a while, now, no matter where I am or what I'm trying. It's showing exactly the same behavior as previously.

Re: w510 BSOD

HI,

When I first bought my laptop I had the gobi card workng on Verizon, after about five months I canceled the service.  Three weeks ago I wanted to activate it on Sprint.  When I pressed Function+F5 and clicked on the button to power on the WWAN, nothing happens. In device manager you can query the gobi card and it would respond, it said everything was working but I could not power on the gobi radio.  So I started troublshooting, looked on the the fourms, calling tech support, re-installing drivers, using the factory restore discs to reinstalling Win7 x64 on an extra hard drive I have, etc.  Nothing worked.  So after two weeks of going back and forth with support, Lenovo came out and replaced my gobi card, it still didn't work.  The only thing that fixed it was to replaced my motherboard.

Hope that answers your questions.  If not let me know.
