w530 Wifi Issues???

2013-06-06, 19:02 PM

I don't know if it's a driver problem or what, but I've been having issues connecting to wifi for a couple weeks now. Before, I would have to restart the computer sometimes to pick up the signal, also it definitely wasn't a problem with the router because I tried several, the neighbors and a couple of mine and all my other devices and computers work fine. Now as of yesterday, I can't connect at all. I don't know what's up. Anyone else having this issue?

I thinking I need to connect with a ethernet cable and try to install updates but haven't done so yet, although I don't think thats it. I don't know??? Ususally I can figure out these things.

Anyone have any advice. Thanks.

This may or may not help you with your issues, but I had a problem with the Intel PROSet Wireless Update from Lenovo.   As someone up above noted, doing the Lenovo Update for this somehow "broke" my connection.  Lenovo told me to use a restore point to the state the W530 was in before the update.....

I called Intel:

   http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/contactsupport

After describing the problem, the technician had me install the latest Intel driver direct from their website.  Driver ID is 15.8.0   for 64bit systems.  I don't yet know if this solved all my problems, but it definitely did solve the problem that prompted me to call Lenovo, that seemed to have been caused by the update.

If in doubt, just call Intel yourself - describe what is happening.  If it has to do with the Wi-Fi connection, they'll help you figure out what is going on.

My first guess would be that the connector to the wifi antenna was pretty loose and now is completely disconnected.

Can you see your neighbors networks as well as yours?

What are the signal strength? Are they equal to the strength shown by other wifi-devices placed at that same location?

If your laptop show much lower signal strength and much fewer networks than the other devices, I'd guess something is up with the antenna or the connection to the antenna.

Sure, sometimes it is a software issue, so the first thing should always be to make sure you have the latest drivers, and in this case also the latest BIOS version (and if it is possible to update any radio-firmware, make sure it is up to date).

What abouth bluetooth? Do you have problems connecting to those as well?

I still don't know what's up. The signal is there, and it says I'm connected but the internet just doesn't work.

I attached a pic showing the signal strength.

I also used the ethernet cable, disabled wifi and still didn't get anything.

I also have an issue with my screen, so I'm wondering if i should send it in.

I should be under warrenty still

That sounds like you've installed new drivers for your wifi card. I've tried multiple versions, but each time there was something wrong. Stick to an initial version and everything will work perfectly.

Try something first:

Open Command Prompt, and try 'ping 8.8.8.8'.
If it succeeds, then it's probably a DNS cache issue, which can be resolved with an 'ipconfig /flushdns' and 'ipconfig /registerdns', also from the Command Prompt.

Do you have an original lenovo system installed on your laptop, or a clean one? Do you still have folders "DRIVERS" and "SWTOOLS" on your C drive? If so, you can just uninstall your wifi driver by going to control panel, device manager and right click on your wifi adapter. Then you can install the driver from your C:\DRIVERS\WIN directory or one from windows update.

In fact I have encountered various issues with all wifi drivers downloaded from lenovo update and intel's site. Default one works perfectly and there is no reason to experiment with other versions.

I'm not sure what's up with my system. I found the folders "drivers" and "swtools" and wasn't really sure how to re-instal the the wifi adapter.

What's really weird is that I have connected via ethernet cable and the same problem happens, it says Im connected to the internet expext still no connection.

I took a screen shot of the adapters under the device manager, I don't know what to do with them.

Any help would be appriciated, I might just send it in.

Thanks

Right-click the 6300, click Properties. Go to the Driver tab and tell us what version driver you're using.
