wifi issues

2020-04-23, 19:40 PM

I bought a P73 about a month ago, and initially had issues with Wifi connection, it was dropping the connection randomly and after I updated my Bios once it was fixed. Until yesterday that there was another Bios update and unfortunately I did it. And now I have issues again. Same random disconnects. I've done everything recommended on forums and nothing worked. It's also terrible that Lenovo has no online support chat! So I was wondering if anybody else has tried everything and had no luck and could fix the issue.

Thank you.

Hello,

A couple of things to try:

  1. Go into Device Manager (filename: DEVMGMT.MSC), select the Network Adapters tree, and locate the wireless adapter (it may be named something like "Intel Wireless-AC 9560" or something similar).  Open it by double-clicking on the wireless adapter, go to the Power Management tab and un-check (deselect) the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option.  Does that solve the problem with the disappearing wireless connection?
  2. Try manually downloading and installing the March 30, 2020 Windows 10 KB4554364 update.  It contains a patch for an issue with network disconnections when using a network proxy or VPN.

Please report back the results after trying these.

Hi, Sorry, I just saw this message. So, here's the info: BIOS version: LENOVO N2NET36W (1.21), 3/18/2020 WIFI Driver version: 21.80.2.1 (it's an Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 160MHz Windows build version: Wnidows 10, version 1909 (OS build: 18363.778) PC MTM: 20QR-s00800 Btw, the connectivity issues got much worse a few days ago, it was disconnecting every 15 mins, and I restarted my machine and it got better BUT I realized that my internet speed is very low. Idk if it's just wifi or what (haven't tried wired yet) but I checked the internet speed on my phone, and old laptop, both go to 100-120 Mbps, on my Lenovo it barely goes up to 25, usually under 20. It's really terrible.

Thanks, Aryeh, I just tried this, and hopefully it will help with the connectivity issue, it's been about 30 mins and I haven't had any issues yet. But as I mentioned it my reply to VMAX, I have slow wifi connection on my laptop, my connection is fine on other devices even on my other 6 year old laptop, it reaches 120 on my phone too, but on my Lenovo on average it's around 20Mbps, which is horrible. I'm hoping it's a software issue since I can't really send my laptop for repair.

Hello,

One thing I'll mention is that it could be that an antenna cable connection is loose.  If so, that could be why the Wi-Fi connection is intermittent.  It is a pretty unusual fault to come across, but it can happen.

The ThinkPad P73 Hardware Maintenance Manual explains how to open up and assemble/disassemble the unit, if you want to check this.
