After Recovery, Partition lost

2010-05-19, 5:56 AM

Hey there

I've a huge problem.

I just wanted to setup win 64bit on my w500 instead of my 32bit system.

So I used the Lenovo Recovery discs to start and play the 64bit on.

Now Win is installed, but I lost a partition that i had before. And there were all my files saved.

Is it possible to recover the partition and why is it gone?

Pls help!

uhoh!

Boot with "Ultimate Boot CD" and take a peek.  (You can google for it). Sorry, I have no other advice I can think of.

Could you explain your process a little more?

When you say the "Lenovo Recovery discs", what were they?

Did they come from Lenovo? -

If they were from Lenovo then any new partitions that YOU made would be erased. They simply make the machine look like it did when you bought it.

Did you make them? -

If you made them (from the options for Rescue and Recovery) then they would contain any new partitions that existed AT THAT TIME. If you made them before creation of the new partition then the discs would not restore it.

You stated that you went from 32 bit to 64 bit. Lenovo discs would not contain a 64 bit OS if your machine was 32 bit when you bought it.

Give us the exact sequence you went through to get where you are. Be very specific!

Just solved it. But thx for your input!

I read a lot of things and tried many recovery (file and partition) software.

"stellar phoenix windows data recovery" did the right thing for me. If anybody else in the future has the same problem.

I got so lucky, that even the folder structure could have been recovered.

To markgrif, i got a 32bit and a 64bit vista recovery cd original from lenovo, which i used.

P.S. sry for bad grammar

good wishes and have a nice day!
