Re: Apple/LG Ultrafine 5K Display: Thinkpad P70 and Windows Support

Why can't you connect a 5k monitor to a P70 and run the monitor at 5K using Thunderbolt 3?

That's what I'm hoping to do.

  • I love to see it in action! Would you please upload a photo of the monitor and   P50 with Windows Display Setting that can show resolution is set to 5K 60hz?
  • How is fan speed/noise with 5K output?
  • Does it work well with sleep and hibernation and wake up?
  • How you change the brightness?  From Windows OR monitor?
  • Does monitor has Thunderbolt output port?

Thanks!

Re: Apple/LG Ultrafine 5K Display: Thinkpad P70 and Windows Support

Now only if someone can build a 5K Thunderbolt 3 monitor like this and then design it like a Surface Studio so it can fold flat with pen and stylus input with a digitizer. Would then make for not just a greta external monitor but a productive work surface for engineering and design projects as well.

I wish Lenovo, LG, Samsung, Microsoft or someone woudl build a stand alone surface monitor with 5K resolution with stylus and touch input. That would be the ultimate monitor for productivity.

@DAVader : Yes that's correct. But most of the high resolution displays are supported by double cable - and Thunderbolt 3 could carry two DisplayPort links.

Please see the attached pictures.

Regarding your questions -

  • Please see the configuration below.
  • The fan is running normally as this display would not increase the workload too much. All my apps (including Slack) would make the laptop more noisy.
  • Currently I don't have problem with hibernation, but perhaps it's a benefit of the dock.
  • I CANNOT change the brightness now.
  • The display does NOT have thunderbolt output, since 5K display takes most of the bandwidth. The other ports are USB-C.

@iyyang

Thanks for sharing. It is appreciated.

The camera issue seems to be a driver issue. The driver may have a HUE correction setting. Hopefully, it can be fixed by feature software update.
