Basic question: New P73 in use, but how can I get the Win10 recovery media/files?

2019-12-22, 20:50 PM

Dear Experts,

I know this is a stupid question, but I just started using my new Lenovo P73 - and now I do have a question? Where can I get the Win10 recovery files, in case I will need them later if my computer SSD crash?

My opinion would be different from others, but I would not get a recovery image from Lenovo.  Rather, I would download a fresh win 10 Image from Microsoft here:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

and install Lenovo Vantage to get the drivers.  That would save you the trouble of needing to apply all the updates needed since your machine was built.  A new image would activate automatically from the key in your BIOS.  If you decide you like the Lenovo recovery image better, you can get it here:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht103653?LinkTrack=Solr

In etther case, you need to backup your personal files

You can also create media locally.  Type "recovery drive" in the task bar search box.  That will give you a recovery flash drive with the OS files in their current state, not (necessarily)as shipped.  It won't include anything you have changed or installed.

With any of these options you can archive the media's files for future use.

Here's how to create it in Windows 10:

How to create a USB recovery drive and use drive to recover Windows 10

I've been using the Lenovo Digital Recover Services to create a recovery USB. I always download it whenever I've purchased a new PC because sometimes errors occur in setup and I want to just start over fresh. Also, some of the Lenovo customizations such as Intelligient Power Plan are nowhere to be found on either the Lenovo or Microsoft website. Additionally, some of the ICM files for the OLED displays and 4k UHD HDR IPS displays are not readily found.

I've never had an issue using the recovery USB to restore the system to initial state. I use Acronis TMI to backup all of my disks and systems.

Thank you for all supporting me. Three options:

1) Lenovo's own recovery media

2) Windows recovery option

3) (Other way of doing the image)

I proceed with the option 1. First I crated the ticket in the Lenovo's website with my account and computer S/N. The I got a download link and first thing to do was to install Lenovo USB Recovery Creator SW. That SW downloaded the needed files from the web and burned the recovery USB for me. I'm happy. Of course I hope that I won't need it, but you never know ;-)
