Blu-ray RE in a W701 custom build?

Okay, I may be completely out on a limb here but I've gotta ask... What do you think  the chances are of getting Lenovo to agree to install the ThinkPad Blu-ray Burner Ultrabay Enhanced Drive (Serial ATA) into a customized ThinkPad W701 build?

Sure I could have it or maybe something even better installed after delivery or even go with an external optical drive but methinks it would be suhweet if I could get it already installed. And the BR-RE 50 GB DL within the laptop would be a handy capability.

Re: Blu-ray RE in a W701 custom build?

FYI  Talked w/ sales today, they currently do not include the Blu-ray burner on the build list due to short production supply.  If supplies become readily available they may consider placing it on the build list options.

Me thinks I should have posted this in the Options & Accessories Forum.

Re: Blu-ray RE in a W701 custom build?

no worries.   you posted in the correct location.

it does look like the blu-ray drives are in short supply.   sometimes when this happens with a component, the option is pulled from the website to minimize backorders.

Re: Blue-ray RE in a W701 custom build?

Seems Lenovo  = still NOT able to SUPPLY BD writers to its thinkpad !!!

What a Bummber !!!

Anyone know when THAT WILL BE available for TP as an option ?

FYI= I have bought a EXTERNAL model (non Lenovo) and works great with via my USB port. I had doubts if the Usb2.0 would have enough 'bandwidth' to cater for the added 'data transfer rate' for 50GB write - but seems the "time to cut" is lengthened to 15 mins ........................and am not sure SATA DRIVE ( built in drive) would do any better -faster 'cuts"

So when will BD writer be available  MR. LENOVO ?

Re: Blue-ray RE in a W701 custom build?

I picked up a brand new Serial Ultra Bay Enhanced Blu-Ray burner off ebay for $169 and it works great.  There is still 1 available as I post this.  Search on 42T2525 to find it.
