Can mini displayport accept input?

2017-05-06, 18:29 PM

I have a thinkpad w541 and a sony handycam (hdr pj670).

I want to use the handycam as a webcam.

According to Sony support, I should be able to connect the Sony's hdmi output port to the laptop's hdmi port and it should appear as a camera on my laptop... if the hdmi port on the laptop works both ways (output and input).

Of course, my thinkpad doesn't have an hdmi port, but I have an hdmi to mini displayport I'm using. But... when I plug the camera and the laptop together the camera doesn't show up as a webcam.

Does that mean that the mini displayport is output only, or can it also accept input and something else is wrong?

Thanks for any help on this,

Chris

PS, connecting to usb to use the camera as a webcam not an option for some reason, according to Sony. That sucks, seems like an obvious thing.
