Cannot use external monitor on USB-C port (ThinkPad p51)

2019-12-16, 20:47 PM

Hi

Problem as I mentioned in the title.

I have a cable usb-c to hdmi with 4k support which works perfectly with my Thinkpad T470 (windows 10 and Linux Lubuntu) and others.

I download the latest drivers for thunderbolt etc., read all similar topics, and nothing helps. I've tried other cable as well and it didn't work either. I have suspicious that the thunderbolt usb-c may work inappropriately.

Iam fed up with this and need help. I want to work normally. There should be an easy answer to this :/

First, look in the BIOS under security/I-O port access

confirm Thunderbolt is not disabled

Thank you for your answer richk !

Iam resetting Windows and starting again.

On Lubuntu second monitor is available (correct resolution, refresh rate) but there is no visible picture on the second screen. Always the same statement "no signal' !! It looks like usb-c thunderbolt does't send video signal through it.

Iam getting tired. Iam waiting for other cables to check, and if this won't work then i will send it to the service center :/
