Deleted Recovery Partition

2012-01-22, 17:51 PM

Hello,

I deleted the recovery partition from my W520 drive. I had made the recovery media to a USB drive but I misplaced the drive! I can't find it anywhere. If I call Lenovo can they send me recovery disks? Even if I have to pay a small fee I don't mind but I need to reinstall Windows. Thank you for your help.

i reinstalled win7 on a ssd, i now have 1 R&R partition on each drive.  how can i remove the one on the SSD.  i would rather just keep the one i have on my hard drive and have more free space on the SSD.  i dont see any options to remove it

thanks

It'll cost you about $45. If you can find the drive and do a restore you'll be able to make another recovery set.

The reason they cost monet is because there is a cost associated with creation and QA.  I thought I also read somewhere they have to pay for another Windows license, too.

I guess they figure if you're dumb enough not to create 1 CD and 3 DVD's so you'll have a free factory restore disk set, you should pay a penalty.

But I don't speak for Lenovo sales.  :smileyvery-happy:

The CD's purpose is to get the environment booted so the Backup or Restore can be run.  I haven't really looked under the covers but I think they are using WinPE for that.  The environment and tools will fit on a CD so that is what you are asked for when you create the first disk in the process of creating the factory image disk set.  I rarely have CD's anymore so I typically just use a DVD instead.  Either works.

The remaining DVD's are used to store the image which is chunkified into DVD size splits.
