Display turns red on both P1 and P70 with Windows 10 1903

2019-05-01, 19:54 PM

I applied the latest update to Windows 10 1903 yesterday on both my P1 and P70. I now have a red display after the lock screen exits within about 30 seconds on both systems. Going to the display settings off the desktop and clicking on the color profile restores everything to normal until the next time. I first experienced the issue on the P70 and then on the P1 after applying the same update (April 27) KB4497093. I've seen nothing online talking about any issues, so I'm assuming that it may be specific to the Lenovo drivers. In the meantime, I restored both systems back to Windows 10 1809 and they are both functioning normally with the same video drivers as before.

Re: Display turns red on both P1 and P70 with Windows 10 1903

I found that the root cause of the issue was the Lenovo Vantage app. Removing it eliminated the red screen on all of my systems (X1, P1, P70) regardless of Display drivers (Intel or NVIDIA). Reported this into Lenovo so I expect a fix before Windows 10 1903 gets pushed to the rest of us.

YMMV

UPDATE: I've tested this again by restoring all of my systems back to 1809 and then updating them to 1903. I also removed Vantage before I applied the 1903 feature. The process from Microsoft was slightly altered in that KB4497093 was not offered for ANY of my system(s) update (P1, P70, X1YOGA2) and installing Vantage did NOT cause the red screen to reappear. I noticed that when I installed Vantage from the MS Store that its version had been modified in last several hours (reasons unknown). I'll keep checking on how my systems are behaving in the morning, but the issue may be resolved.

UPDATE2: Current Windows 10 1903 is 18262.86. KB4497093 is not relevant for this version.

I have the same issue with X1C6, called Lenovo Tech Support and it kept blaming me on setting up "Night Light" where there's none!

I removed Vantage and did a reboot, tada..... Problem gone!

I found that if you just click on the reset button in the vantage application in the Night Light section, that the red would go away as well.

I have a ThinkPad P51s and began experiencing the issue shortly after updating to 1903.

The first "fix" I found that worked was updating my nVidia drivers to the latest (26.21.14.3064) found on their website.

That last a week until today, the new "fix" is disabling\reenabling the nVidia display adapter in device manager.

I'll check on the Lenovo Vantage app version.

--Update--

I found "Eye Care Mode" to be the culprit on my laptop. It defaults to a color temperture of 1200 K which makes the screen red. Moving it back up to 5000 K get's it back to a comfortable color.

Easy fix, make sure Eye Care is turned off in the "Lenovo Vantage" app. First step is go to your Windows search bar, type in "Lenovo Vantage", then open the app. Next, within the app find the 'Media' option and click on it. Then you can click on 'Reset temperature' next to both 'Daytime Color Temperature" and "Color Temperature in Eye Care Mode". You can also click on the 'OFF' button next to "Color Temperature in Eye Care Mode". These steps should resolve your issue of Red Screen After Windows 10 Update. Before and After pic below:
