Docking Station W520

Please I also realised the W520 comes with a 170w charger. I fitted the W520 on the docking station Thinkpad Mini dock Series 3 3.0 USB but when i switch on the pc i got the nessage that the wattage was too low.

Please can you advise which docking station is i need for the W520?

Thanks

Michael

That's weird, I'm not aware of an AC adapter more powerful than the 170W model... It should be ok...

Where do you get the error? When booting? Or in Windows? Is PowerManager installed?

Regards

Re: Docking Station W520

So I fitted it into a Lenovo Docking Station Mini Dock Series 3 voor ThinkPad 90W station and when i booted it i then got the error message that the power is too low. I tought Lenovo gave the option between 65w  90w and probably 170w and any of these could do?

I overlooked this ^  :-(

It could be that the power connector of the docking does not support the 170W AC adapter. The power plugs fot the 170W are slightly different than the 65W/90W models. Can you take a picture of the Docking Station's power plug?

Re: Docking Station W520

I meant the connector on the docking itself ;-)

If I understand Lenovo's documentation correctly, the 170W version of the dock (which has its own FRU#) has a different power connector.

It should look like the picture below (top right):

Does yours look similar?

Re: Docking Station W520

The problem is that you cannot physically connect a 170W plug to a 90w dock.  The plug won't fit.  It is detected as 170W because the resistance between the signal pin (the one in the middle) and ground (the outside face) is 1500 ohms.  On a 90W adapter, the  signal pin is not connected to anything (open circuit)

I think so, but let's wait for a second opinion. Maybe some other forum member has an idea...

Try the Lenovo outlet: http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/outletus/

(There used to be outlets for several European countries, but I can't find a link now).
