Docking station for P53

I am getting a new P53 soon and I am trying to find a compatible docking station with it and I can't find one since the P53 is not even available on Finding dock station page,  is there any docking station compatible with it

Re: Docking station for P53

Hi!

I would guess you need the same as the P52, with 230W power adapter. Maybe it's the one for the P72?

Key items: 230W, Thunderbolt, same power connector?

One clue could be to look at the Hardware maintenance manual for both the P53 and the P72...

It's only an educated guess, but might help you in your search...

Re: Docking station for P53

Given that there are many ports on the P53, why a dock is needed?

Re: Docking station for P53

To NOT have to plug/unplug all those ports when you take the P53 with you ;-)

Re: Docking station for P53

Short answer: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Displays-Options-and-Accessories/ThinkPad-Dock-Compatibility-An-exhaust...

Long answer: you can buy the Thunderbolt Workstation dock. Just go with the one that matches your computer's AC adapter (no need for the 230W if you only have the 170W adapter).

Alternatively, you can get the Thunderbolt Dock Gen 2, which is identical to the Workstation dock except for the AC adapter (insufficient to power the laptop, but you can use the one you already have) and the special TB+Power cable (you can power the laptop directly; unfortunately that cable does not seem to be on sale as a separate item). It's a cheaper option that can provide one advantage: you can have a longer distance between the laptop and the dock if you buy a longer TB 40Gbps cable (the longest I found so far is 0.8 meters/2.6 ft; Lenovo's seems to be shorter and the connectors are angled in a particular direction). Just be aware that if you decide to get the 170W AC adapter separately you end up at the same cost as the regular 170W workstation dock, and you'll have an extra 135W adapter that you won't be using for this setup.

I personally ordered the 170W dock and a TB cable. I want to power the laptop and the dock independently and have them a bit further apart, and I'll take the second adapter home so I won't have to carry it with the laptop.

And we're back...

Move delayed but still coming
