Dolby Home Theatre 4

2014-12-09, 20:09 PM

I just noticed on my w540 that the Dolby Home Theatre v4 doesnt do anything?  Changing the settings does nothing to the sound when playing music.  Should it not do something?

Removed and reinstalled the drivers, and nothing.   Using Windows 8.1

I can see within the sound settings that dolby digital plus seems to be installed, and I can toggle it on and off, leading to a change in sound quality.   However, home theatre does nothing.  Any thoughts anyone?

I have a W530, and Win7 Pro x64, and the Dolby Home Theater software is provided through Lenovo's Realtek sound driver package. It is not included in Realtek's standard retail driver package so you can't use a Realtek-provided driver to do a "driver install/upgrade". You need to stick with whatever Lenovo provides.

Anyway, I find it most easy to hear a difference in the Dolby Home Theater EQ presets (after pushing the "settings" gear to get the full UI to appear) when using headphones, not using the speakers on the PC.  Checking the different EQ presets changes which "EQ frequency envelope picture " is highlighted, and DOES alter the sound.

Where are you finding Dolby Home Theater? I only have Dolby Digital Plus on my W540.

W540: i7-4700mq, K2100m, 16 GB RAM, 500 GB Samsung 840 EVO
T510: i7-620m, NVS 3100m, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB Samsung 840 EVO

Dolby Home Theater 4 icon in the system tray.

Right-click for popup menu

or left-click to get initial UI

Then push the "gear" icon at the bottom to get the full UI.

Hi guys, thanks for the great advice, but unfortunately, Dolby Theatre v4 does nothing on my machine.  Does not change the audio characteristics at all.  I managed to get version 2 working on my machine and that works fine.  Can augment the audio without difficulty.  Using v4 - no dice.  I am running the drivers from Lenovo.

Hi pete_123

Does the audio characteristics not change even if you switch in between Movie, Music, Games or Custom? I have the new Dolby Digital Home Theater installed on my 11s and still under testing, In my opinion, the new Dolby Digital HT and AA has less feature set and the EQ does not seems to be working. (It somehow works, but does not allow you to view your settings).

That's right - swapping between music, movie, etc does nothing.  Turning on/off the equalizer etc does nothing - moving the bars about - nothing.  Although switched on, and it appears to be working, there is no noticable effect on the sound, unless my ears are bad.   Using v2 of the software, all works very well.

When playing audio - should there not be some moving bars indicating that the sound is being processed within this box?  I have never seen anything moving and a shaking within this box - while using v2, the bars are hopping up and down.

Hi pete_123

There should be moving bar indicating the sound is being processed. It works for my Dolby on W520 and Yoga 11s. Have you tried downloading and install the latest version of Realtek driver for your W540?

Thanks Peter, it is definitely not working on my W540.  I have tried installing and reinstalling the drivers repeatedly  - Dolby Home Theatre v4 just does not want to work.
