Dummy Insert for Smart-Card Slot for P51

Is There a Dummy Smart-Card Insert available to place into Slot #4 to keep debris etc. out of my P51's unused Smart-Card Slot.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Re: Dummy Insert for Smart-Card Slot for P51

You might consider picking-up any credit-card sized gift card (e.g. Starbucks, etc.) with no stored value and inserting it into the slot.  Any standard-sized card ought to fit fine  -- won't make a hermetic seal but at least should keep larger debris out of the slot.

Re: Dummy Insert for Smart-Card Slot for P51

Thanks for your suggestion.

I took an expired plastic membership card which is the same size as a credit card but without any embossed lettering that might get hung up on the inside of the slot.  It was about 1 inch too long.  I trimmed off the excess so the card fit flush after insertion.  I found that when inserting the card I encountered friction of sliding over contacts in the back of the slot so the card fit snuggly and wouldn't accidently fall out.  I also found that in order to remove the card, since there was no way to grab it to remove it, I was able to work a small knife blade underneath the card and gently walk it out.  You're right the card doesn't fully seal the opening , it does keep out the majority of any debris.  So I am happy with the results.

Thanks,

Re: Dummy Insert for Smart-Card Slot for P51

FWIW, I've had minimal debris enter my W520's empty smart card slot over the years.

On the other hand, having a supporting card inserted may have prevented the palmrest cracking right above the card reader.
