Fn, Hotkeys and Power Manager

2019-12-18, 17:31 PM
Hi all,
I did a clean install on a new P1 Gen 2 Type 20QT ThinkPad Laptop.
I managed to install everything correctly except for the Hotkeys. I can use all the shortcuts Fn + <key>, and I get the Windows notification on the top left corner for every shortcut except for the keyboard backlight.
The backlight changes but I get no notification. Also between reboots I lose the last setting no matter what I set, after reboot it always off.
I followed the below installation order:
1 - Lenovo System Interface Foundation
2 - Lenovo Power Management Driver
3 - Lenovo Power Manager
4 - Hotkey Features Integration
For the Lenovo Power Management and Lenovo Power Management Driver I received a message stating that a better driver existed, so I forced the driver by going to
Device Manager > System Devices > Lenovo PM Device & Lenovo Power Manager and install the last one provided on the product page but still I´m unable to get things working

In sum my problem is:
1 - How to install Lenovo notifications that came originally (instead of Windows) ?
2 - How to save keyboard backlight settings?  Between reboots I lose the last setting no matter what I set, after reboot it always off.

Many thanks

Does the F4 hotkey (for microphone mute) work?  Most of hotkeys are native to Windows 10, but Mic Mute and Keyboard Backlight are still ThinkPad-unique features provided by hotkeys.  See here for things you can check to figure out why hotkeys might not be working:

For the keyboard backlight after reboot/sleep/hibernate, it always resets to off.  The ThinkPad designers say this is working as designed.  There is no way for you to change this behavior unfortunately.

Hi Francisco,
FYI on my P52, Windows 10 1809, I do get an icon on keyboard backlight activation.

Could it be related to the fact I'm using the Enterprise version of Lenovo Vantage?

Hi ve2mrx,

I used Lenovo System Update but just installed Lenovo Vantage to see if fixed the icon but unfortunately no. The shorcut works but no icon. Everything is working perfectly, and I now this is just a tiny detail but my OCD is making me obsessed to get it working ;)

Both software says that my system is up-to-date. All windows updates done. I´m running:

- Windows 10 Pro 1909 build 18363.535

- Lenovo PM Device Driver version: 1.67.17.48

- Lenovo Power Manager Driver version: 10.0.106.0

- Fn and fnction keys version: 9.1.0.3

Either way thanks for your input.

Microsoft had fun with Windows 10 after 1809... I currently don't want it because of the bugs reported and not fixed. Changing stuff for the sake of justifying change does not work with me.

Hi!

I hate rapid-cycle development in production, and I got Windows 10 Pro to delay feature updates for a year! Quality updates are currently set to 21 days after the November mess (it was 15 days before). I suggest you visit AskWoody.com :-)

At the moment, I don't have 1909, but I am thinking of upgrading my 1903 partition to check the on-screen icons... After all, I normally don't use it.
