It's definitely very loud... Which is why I suspect Lenovo doesn't allow the fan speed to go that high anymore, albeit at the cost of performance and longevity... As a pro user, I would prefer to have the option of enabling higher fan performance in the BIOS.

If I use FurMark, should I be looking at the core speed shown in my screenshot (using my K4000M GPU in my old laptop for an example)? Should this be the base (945 MHz for the RTX 3000) or the "boost" (1380 MHz)?

"I agree with your thinking on having to do all of this with a brand new (and expensive) machine right out of the box. These are issues these types of machines shouldn't have... Sad to say, but the ThinkPads of now are not the same machines of yesteryear... My last ThinkPad (P72) died after only 5 months of use and they didn't make the motherboard anymore so they sent me a new P73 which had fan issues so they had to send me yet another machine... Nowadays it seems like a gamble if you get a good machine or not..."
I wonder if there's any chance of it working right straight out of the box... It's cheaper than the 7740 so I'd rather get the P73 if it works, but I'd probably rather pay the extra for the 7740 than have to mess about reinstalling Windows and sorting out drivers etc on a brand new laptop.

Also the 7740 I referred to is a Dell not HP - did you mean to type Dell instead of HP? Have you heard Dell have got issues?
I've ruled out HP for other reasons. It's between the P73 and the Dell 7740 now I think...

I'd say the odds of having this GPU bug are very high just by the sheer number of views this thread has (currently 1,800)... Although at this point the issue is fairly well documented so the fix is rather simple and shouldn't take more than an hour. As far as FurMark goes, there should just be a "Core Speed" in the upper left hand corner of your window.

Thanks to all of you kind people who have helped me.
Based on what I've read on this thread and elsewhere, I've today cancelled my P73 order and received my refund. I'm going to order a Dell 7740 instead. Have seen many good reviews and no problems like the ones mentioned about the P73.
I just really don't want to buy a very expensive brand new PC and have to mess about with drivers and reinstalling windows and disabling software etc just to get it to work. I've spent long enough doing that in my life...
Thank you all for helping me reach my decision!
