Gobi 2000 GPS - how to turn on/off and NMEA documentation

2011-01-25, 20:37 PM

Hi all,

I have a W510 with a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 card.  It seems to work ok with the software that comes with it.

But I want to increase the GPS position update rate from each 3 seconds to maybe twice each second.  Is there a NMEA configuration statement to do this?

I also want to programatically with an API turn the GPS on/off.  Currently this must be done with a button press in the ThinkAdvantage GPS Enabler tool.

Third, I am looking for documentation of the particular dialect of NMEA sentences used.  There is a proprietory sentence $PQXFI that may contain interesting accuracy information.  Example: $PQXFI,192908.9,5955.424660,N,01055.895431,E,224.5,45.93,21.33,3.84*66

Finally some NMEA sentences appears to have ilegal information in them.  Is really nan allowed in the NMEA standard?  Example: $GPVTG,nan,T,nan,M,0.0,N,0.0,K,A*23
