I wish you all Merry Christmas!
My question is quite simple.
Is the Gobi 4000 compatible with W520 or not?If not why is that?I know that the Gobi 3000 is for the Lenovo W520,but it seems that it doesn't support 4G LTE via carrier's mobile network and that is why I want to buy the Gobi 4000.

I did some research and found this thread that deals with the same question, albeit a different machine. Sadly, the Gobi 4000 is not compatible in any machines not listed here on Lenovo's website, due to it not being on the whitelist in your BIOS. The whitelist is a list of devices that are compatible with your machine. The Gobi 4000 is not part of the whitelist, unfortunately. Also, the antennas for 4G are different than those for 3G found in the Gobi 3000.

Happy Holidays.Thanks for your reply.
Well,I did a small research s well and I saw that if I go to the support site of Lenovo and more specific to the part when you can download Drivers & Software if you choose as a product the W520 4270 CTO and as operating system Windows 7 Professional you will be able to see that at the Networking: Wireless WAN section the following :
Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation (Ericsson F3507g, Ericsson F3607gw, Ericsson F5521gw, Ericsson H5321gw, Sierra Gobi4000, Qualcomm Gobi2000, Qualcomm Gobi3000) for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP - ThinkPad
and if you click it you will see that it provides a driver for the aforementioned network cards.
From that I suppose that it might be compatible with W520.Nevertheless I am a bit confused with the whole situation.
So is it compatible or not?

Hi again, fasdf78
The driver that you found does support both the Gobi 3000 and 4000, but your machine itself does not support the Gobi 4000 due to your BIOS whitelist. I can certainly understand your confusion, especially since this driver works for multiple cards. This is an activation driver from Lenovo that activates the mobile broadband capabilites of the system, so it supports multiple cards and machines, even if the machines and cards are not compatible with each other, like in your case. To summarize: the Gobi 4000 is unfortunately not compatible in your machine.
Hope it helps,

Glad I could help! Sadly, I looked up the compatible cards for the W520 and found no 4G LTE compatibility. Currently, only 3G is available for your system.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, yet again
