Re: I've got a W520 that will not duplicate the monitor to a projector or external monitor

This still does not work for me. The projector is still blank.  ARGH!

Re: Cannot project with my W520

I should note that I can extend my desktop to the projector with no problems, so I know that the hardware is working.  I just cannot duplciate my screen, but as a presenter this is incredibly important to me.  I need to be able to see on my screen what I am clicking on and I cannot do that if I just extend my desktop - I need to duplicate it.

Re: Cannot project with my W520

Did you follow the steps I provided earlier in this thread? It works for me but does require going into the NVIDIA control panel after choosing to duplicate the monitor.

Re: Cannot project with my W520

Not yet, but I will test it. I have a presentation coming up in a couple weeks so I had better figure it out.

Re: Cannot project with my W520

Yes I followed all of those instructions but could not get the projector accepting my VGA connection.

Re: Cannot project with my W520

I went to my BIOS and disabled the Optimus feature and switched to discrete graphics.  One of the other posters said they failed miserably with this setting, but once I did this, it worked like a charm.  I can now use Windows-P, select Duplicate and see my screen and the projector at the same time (and that meets my expectation).  I don't need to do the song-and-dance that is presented in this thread using the nvidia control panel and manually disabling adapters and then joining them in a single display.  One note - I am using the latest drivers released in June as well - but I had them on there before I turned off Optimus in the BIOS and switched to discrete graphics.

ADMIN Edit - Please see related technical tip on the Lenovo Support Site.

Re: Cannot project with my W520

The Intel iGPU bites. When you need to do any real work you might as well set the BIOS to Discrete and use the NVIDIA dGPU. I only use Optimus when traveling and I need battery life.

Re: Cannot project with my W520

switching to discreet mode solved my issue to a monitor. I"m hoping it also solves it to a projector (presentation wednesday so I'll find out)

Re: I've got a W520 that will not duplicate the monitor to a projector or external monitor

Any update on the problem? I had exactly the same problem today for a presentation. That was great. Any acknowledgment by Lenovo or Intel that this is not working? For a business laptop/workstation, this is unacceptable.

Thanks, MCheiron
