Installing Server 2012 R2 on P50

2016-11-11, 16:57 PM

Hello

I have been asked to load a lenovo P50 Thinkpad with Windows Server 2012 r2.  It currently has Win 10 loaded.  A couple of issues.  When I boot the laptop to the usb the setup screen is very small.  Also during setup there are no drives located to install windows to.  I have a raid 1 setup on the laptop.

I am probably missing some information.  Please let me know some suggestions

thanks

I got it.  I had to download and install the Intel Sata Chipset driver.

This helped me too

Hi,

Were you able to get all drivers sorted out? I am currently having issues with the Wireless Drivers. Have tried Win 7, Win 8 and Win 10 from Lenove website. Mine is a P50EQ.

Thanks

Hello,

It's been a while since I've installed Windows Server 2012 R2 on a notebook computer, but I recall you had to add the wireless networking service to the operating system before installing the drivers.

Here's a blog post I found explaining how to do this, step-by-step:  How can I manually enable wireless networking in Windows Server 2012?  Perhaps that will be of use.

Regards,

Isn't easier to use a virtual machine if you need to test or develop something under Windows Server ?

It depends.

There are fewer reasons to run Windows Server on a laptop now than it used to be, but considering that the only real user-level difference between Windows 7 vs W2012, or W10 vs 2016 is the complete lack of Bluetooth stack in Server edition, why not.
