I was thinking of ordering the AC 8260 for my W541 to replace the AC 7260. They both have the same connector, M.2 2230. It's only $30.
Anybody have any reasons why not to do this ?

The best indicator of which wireless cards will work in a given machine is the FRU parts listing.
If you want to try the 8260, make sure you have a no-questions-asked return guaranty.

Thanks , as far as I see there are 4 AC cards listed , but what doe the part numbers relate to , EG what is this card Wireless,CMB,IN, WP2acM2ROMINA , Wireless,CMB,IN, WP2ac M.2 In , Wireless,CMB,IN,WP2ac M.2
any of these an ac7260 , what card do those numbers correspond to ?
Looks like the T440 parts list offers a bit better detail on two of the cards.
04W3844 (Wireless,CMB,IN,WP2ac M.2 In) - Intel Wilkins Peak 2 7260 2*2 11ac+BT4.0 M.2 Card Indonesia SKU
04X6007 (Wireless,CMB,IN,WP2ac M.2) - Intel Wilkins Peak 2 7260 2*2 11ac+BT4.0 M.2 Card Wake# Issue Fix SKU
For these two: 04X6082 (Wireless,CMB,IN,WP2acM2ROM) and 04X6083 (Wireless,CMB,IN,WP2acM2ROMINA)
it's probably safe to infer - Intel Wilkins Peak 2 7260 2*2 11ac+BT4.0 M.2 Card
from the nomenclature, but I don't know what "ROM" or "ROMINA" denote.
Hope this helps to clarify a bit.

I tried this exact combo and it does not work. My understanding is that the W541 has a white list of supported WiFi cards and the 8260 is not in there so it does not work. If I recall properly, the card causes a warning in the BIOS and the system does not boot...
