Intel Rapid Storage Technology 10.8.0.1003 on W700

I've been having the same problem with drive time outs that a number of people have reported.  Lenovo replaced the disk once on warantee.  Since Lenovo hasn't posted any new Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers for the W700 for a couple of years (they have for the W701 and some other models), I decided to install 10.8.0.1003 from the Intel website.   It's been three days, and so far so good.  The file was iata_cd_10.8.0.1003.exe

Still so far so good.

I found a thread on Intels forums that indicates that starting with IRST 8.9, there were lots of bogus failed drives. This seemed to persist until version 10.6. Of course, 8.9 is what I had on my W700 through all the drive failures. Here's the thread:

I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I'm going to have to obfuscate
the situation a bit tomorrow when I upgrade the drives from 300G to 750G. I'd like to stall a few weeks but the space situation has become critical.

Re: Intel Rapid Storage Technology 10.8.0.1003 on W700

It should be okay. I've always updated to the latest Intel RST on my T400, whose last Lenovo provided driver was still called Matrix Storage.

My W520 is also on 10.8.0.1003; the 11.5 beta caused it to not show any SMART data or thermal readings, plus increased boot time by 10 seconds.

W520: 2960XM, Q2000M @ 1091/1380, 32GB RAM, 500GB&750GB HDD & 500GB SSD, FHD&MB168B+
X61T: L7500, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, XGA screen, Ultrabase
W550s: 5600U, K620M at 1164/1281, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 3K touchscreen
X200s: SL9400, 6GB RAM, 64GB SD card, WXGA+ screen
TPT1: 1839-23U

Tomorrow it will have been seven weeks since I upgraded, no more bogus hard drive failures.  I'm declaring victory.
