Keyboard Feedback Request

2012-07-05, 12:04 PM

For any of you who have bought the W530:

How does the new keyboard compare to the old style of the W520?

I don't care as much about the details of layout but wonder if they were able to retain the solid feeling and tactile response.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

I actually like it.

It feels like a solid keyboard. It takes getting used to If you have owned a W520(like me). You can't exactly compare them since they are so different, but in terms of tactile response and solid feel, I give it an A+. If you have a chance to play with any of the new thinkpads, do so, as they all use the chiclet keyboard now(I believe)

Deep down I believe the chiclet keyboard doesn't really belong on a machine in this class, but I'm slowly getting used to it.

I got the non backlit keyboard model of the W530.

P.S: So far, the W530 has been a great machine.

Most people say the feel of the new keyboard is great.  The issue most people have is with keys being moved around.  If you don't care about the details of the layout, I think you will probably like the new keyboard a lot.

Thanks for the reports.
I went ahead and placed my order for the W530.

Maybe they are not perfect but it still seems that nothing can seriously compete with Thinkpads.

Not nearly as bad as I expected it to be.

I'm coming from an old thinkpad T61 and I liked the keyboard a lot. I wasn't too thrilled to see the new chicklet island style keyboards. The new w530 isn't bad at all. There is a decent amount of key travel and the keys are responsive. It will take  alittle adjusting but it won't be horrible to type with. Much better than my gf's mac.

I do wish they stayed with the old style, but I think I'll eventually adjust
