Laptop P 70 randomly shuts off

2019-05-21, 20:27 PM

My usually reliable Lenovo P 70 has a habit of shutting down all by itself usually around 3:00 pm EDT. Thought it was a Windows 10 problem, and it may still be,  but I just installed an upgrade to Win 10, and the problem continues. Very annoying as can happen when working on Excel or on Outlook email. It just shuts off without any warning message.

Hi Fubar0007!

Welcome to the Lenovo forum discussion.

Kindly open the Lenovo vantage app https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht505081?CID=ww:lenovosocial:20x9m6 and check for a system update. After that, run the hardware scan using the Lenovo vantage app and check for a result code. Let us know how it goes.

In addition, does the issue only happen while you are using the MS Excel or MS Outlook? If yes, have you tried using a different app and check if the issue will occur?

Regards,

Random shutoffs are often caused by overheating.  I use TPFanControl (freeware) to monitor that if I think I might have a problem.
