Lenovo 256 Solid State Drive Part Number?

I purchased a Lenovo 256GB SSD. The part number that I ordered was 43N3417.

When the drive arrived, the part numbers on it did not match.

The part number is 45N7990 and FRU is 45N7991.

The drive is a Toshiba drive that was made January 21, 2011.

Its marked as a 256GB Solid State Drive.

Can anyone confirm that the part number 45N7990 is a Lenovo part number?

Does Toshiba make the SSD for Lenovo?

Is this a true Lenovo drive or some knockoff drive?

Thank you,

Mike

Re: Lenovo 256 Solid State Drive Part Number?

Lenovo use SSD's from Toshiba, Samsung, Intel and maybe others as well. As far as i know Lenovo do not manufacture any SSD's. The part number 43N3417 should have the FRU 45N8207 and it should be a Toshiba SSD as far as i'm aware of.

I don't know anything about the part number 45N7990 or FRU 45N7991 so cannot say for sure if this is a true Lenovo SSD (even if actually Toshiba) or not. Maybe someone else can provide some more info.

Where did you buy this SSD?

Re: Lenovo 256 Solid State Drive Part Number?

I purchased this from Provantage via their web site.

I needed the drive the next day and the Lenovo ecom site said it would take long.

It was in a Lenovo box with the part number 43N4317 on it. But that doesn't

mean it couldn't have been just put in that box.

I will call Provantage tomorrow to see if they can confirm it is the correct drive.

I really debated on ordering it from anyone besides Lenovo, but I need it

because the 128GB SSD my W510 came with is almost out of disk space.

Re: Lenovo 256 Solid State Drive Part Number?

I'll chime in.

I ordered a 43N3417 256GB FDE SSD directly from Lenovo in May, 2012. The box that arrived said P/N 43N3417 but had the Part # 45N7990 / FRU # 45N7901 part inside just as described earlier.  It is labeled as an 256GB FDE SSD made by Toshiba.

The box said it was "Manufactured for Lenovo" 2011-12-16.

I also have a 2nd 43N3417 unit which arrived the same way so this appears to be what Lenovo ships for the 43N3417, perhaps depending on supply..or either they have a bunch of boxes with mislabeled parts inside.

Later.

Just as an aside, any 2.5" SATA SSD will work in your system. It does not need to be specially made for Lenovo.
