Lenovo P1 2nd gen keyboard issue

2020-01-29, 12:32 PM

Hello

We have been experiencing keyboard issue with multiple Lenovo P1 2nd gen machines. When typing really fast the keyboard "misses" keys and causes typos to occur extremely often. This has happened to 10 machines (and users) so far. Every machine has latest Lenovo updates installed and latest Windows 1909 updates installed. Has this been occurring elsewhere?

If you take one of the systems experiencing this, and test with the Lenovo factory preload, fully updated, do you see the same behavior?

If not, the culprit is most likely something in your preload or application/security software you loaded.

I have the exact same issue with a P1 (Gen2), and for me it was dropping keystrokes during the windows registration and setup before the computer even had a chance to download updates.

A quick look on the forums will show many threads between the P1 (Gen2) and the X1 Extreme (Gen2), which are basically the same machines with different GPUs, having exactly the same issue regardless of Bios, drivers, and is happening on both Linux and Windows.

Yeah, managed to do some testing, happens on 1903 and 1909 both clean, no extras installed, latest update, latest BIOS and latest drivers. Also after browsing the forums agree with robarnold, seems to be an Lenovo issue not OS issue. Had colleague try Linux and the same happened there. Sometimes it works fine, but at some point the typing starts "stuttering" leaving out keys etc.

I have no intend to spam or try to hijack thread, but to spread awareness since P1 and X1 Extreme are basically same devices.

Is there any news regarding test BIOS/EC firmware for P1 2nd gen also? As stated here:

Would love to test as the issue seems to be identical with X1 Extreme.

I'm also hoping that Lenovo will provide this update for the P1 Gen2 as well
