Lenovo P50 not starting up

2018-03-18, 17:15 PM

I started having an issue this morning with my lenovo p50.  when i try to turn it on nothing happens.  with the laptop plugged in the power lights on the back are not even on.

i tried removing the battery and the charger and held down the power for 30 secs then plugged in the charger and tried turning on.  after doing this laptop tyrns on briefly i see logo and then it turns off.  after trying to turn it on a few more times it eventually just gets to a point where only lights on the keyboard turn on briefly there is a whir of the fan for about a second and then immediately shuts off.

what do you guys think the problem might be?

Just a wild guess: When this happened to me, the BIOS either lost or has corrupted drive information in the NVRAM / P-RAM. What helped for me: Remove all drives (and I mean ALL, NVME, SATA, USB everything) and try to boot without any media connetcted to the machine. Your Thinkpad will then try to recover and reset the boot information, since nothing is found. This helped for me, your mileage may vary.

Check whether the flight mode icon on the bar lights up.

My P50 sometimes ends up in that, perhaps after an update.

The battery will not charge while plugged in and turned on and will eventually go flat.

I think that you can get past it by leaving it plugged and and turned off to charge the battery and then trying to get past it.

First thing - are you still under warranty?  If yes, don't mess with it; call support.
