I have new Lenovo P52, and after download and updated "BIOS Update Utility EXE" version 1.17 run on Windows 10 x64 from Lenovo support site as below. Update BIOS successfully and after restart my laptop have with a deep alarm sound with screen error "PS/2 Mouse not Detected" and i can’t use more than one finger on my touchpad.

• Platform : Latptop Thinkpad P52

• System machine type and model number : P52 (Type 20M9, 20MA) 

• Full hardware configuration: I7 , 32GB RAM, 512 SSD

• Operating system used: Win7 64-bit

• BIOS version : 1.17  ( Released : 27 Nov 2018 )

I do not have a ThinkPad P52 myself, but I am wondering if you replace the CMOS battery cable and set the time, does the problem then go away?

I did it. But error "PS/2 Mouse Not Detected" still have as image on my 1st post.

The keyboard working fine, but the touchpad (Elantech Thinkpad UltraNav Trackpoint ) can't be use. 

I'm waiting for Lenovo realase new BIOS version , that maybe fix this issue.

This is a long shot. I've seen cases where "toggling" BIOS settings seem to fix issues such as this. Try ...

BOOT, but

enter the BIOS

disable the TRACKPOINT

save the settings

power off

power on

enter the BIOS

enable the TRACKPOINT

save the settings

power off

power on

enter the BIOS

disable the TOUCHPAD

save the settings

power off

power on

enter the BIOS

enable the TOUCHPAD

save the settings

power off

power on

boot

check your mouse settings (this assumes ELANTECH drivers, if applicable)

  SETTINGS (Windows) --> DEVICES --> MOUSE --> ELAN TRACKPOINT FOR THINKPAD

    click on TrackPoint (should be ON)

    "Leave TrackPoint on when a mouse is connected should be checked

check your TOUCHPAD settings

  SETTINGS (Windows) --> DEVICES --> TOUCHPAD

    enable if desired

    "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected should probably be checked

I have alway keeping my laptop plugged into AC power all the time setup.

Step 1: I'm downloaded BIOS version 1.17

On Windows 10 x64 , i'm run setup file as below:

Setup successfully and reboot. Nothing happen here. Everything working fine.

Step 2: Download and install Elantech ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad P52 Version 24.21.16.5

With some unknow reasons , install failed with error "Fail to enter Transparent mode" 

After restart Windows, i seen this error "PS/2 Mouse Not Detected"

I'm trying manual method :

1. Go to the path where downloaded package file has been extracted

Default Location: C:\Drivers\WIN\Elantech_TrackPointFW\Ps2_sp_FWupdate.exe

2. Double click to run Ps2_sp_FWupdate.exe

3. Type Yes =>  ENTER => and got still error

I seen the Warning 1st: " During the operation, keyboard, touchpad and stick point will lose function. "

I think problem at here, update TrackPoint Firmware Update Utility Version 1.0.0.4 has FAILED and after that will got LOSE FUNCTIONs of Touchpad and Stick Point too.

This firmware can be apply for alot of Models Lenovo laptop, that mean a lot of laptops maybe effected by this error "PS/2 Mouse Not Detected".

BUT, error "PS/2 Mounse not Detected" still there, i can't use TRACKPOINT , TOUCHPAD on my laptop Lenovo P52.

Have you tried very carefully removing whatever cables attach the TrackPad/TrackPoint to the system board, and then re-attaching them?  This can be done by following the instructions in the ThinkPad P52's Hardware Maintenance Manual.  Please keep in mind, though, that the flat ribbon cables and connectors are very fragile.

The firmware update failed with the Error Code[0x69]

 

Since then I can no longer use both the trackpoint and the touchpad!

The official firmware update completly bricked my input devices.
