Lenovo Thinkpad P51 suddenly died - problem

2020-01-25, 13:19 PM

Hello. I have a problem with my Lenovo Thinkpad P51. During my daily usage of this laptop it hanged up for a moment, so I had to turn it off by pressing the power button. For a second on a laptop screen appeared a message "critical low battery error" or something like that. From this time I can't turn it on and when the power supply is plugged LED which should inform that laptop is during charging, is off.
I have been trying to put in and put off battery multiple times and nothing happened. Do you know what can be a solution to this problem?

Hi Blendzior,

The red LED in the "i" of "ThinkPad" on the back of the screen should blink 3 times when you plug in the power adapter. Does it?

If it doesn't, your power adapter or something in the laptop is possibly broken. The first step would be to measure the voltage from the power adapter as is usually mentioned in your machine's Hardware Maintenance Manual. You should find it in the Documentation section of your Lenovo Support page.

I wouldn't bother with any solution on this forum, just call Lenovo ASAP so that there can change the whole motherboard. I guess your machine is still under warranty. My P51 have received 3 visits from the Lenovo Engineers within the last 2 years
