My Mistake- Upgraded W520 to Win10 and want to go back to Win 7. Help appreciated.

2018-11-11, 23:06 PM

I recently upgraded my W520 to Win10. It's been nothing but trouble. At one point I saw the option of being able to go back to Win7. Now that I want to go back to Win7, I don't see that option anymore. I now think the best thing to do is a factory reset. However, I don't know how to get recovery media.  I am the original owner of this W520 and have the proper documentation, i.e.  COA, SN, etc. Any help will be appreciated. -JP

Hello,

I believe the option to roll back from Windows 10 the previously-installed operating system is removed after thirty (30) days, and the backup made of the previous OS is removed in order to free up space on the drive.

You can check with Lenovo support at 1-800-426-7378 to see if recovery media for the ThinkPad W520 is still available.

Regards,

Go to the Microsoft download site to obtain Windows 7 SP1, You will be asked for the COA id when you restart the system. After that, you can run Windows Update (for hours) to get it to the latest level. Of course, you will need to manually add the Lenovo apps from the Lenovo download site.
