NVIDIA Optimus Driver for Windows 10 does not work

I have a Thinkpad W520 with Quadro 2000M/Intel HD Graphics 3000.

 

I have downloaded the latest NVIDIA Optimus Driver for Windows 10 (22.21.13.8299) from 19 January 2018 from the Lenovo website. When it runs it says it will install the drivers and the readme file says that the device is supported here:

WHAT THIS PACKAGE DOES

  This package installs the software (Display and Audio drivers) to enable the
  following devices.

  ----------------------    ---------------------------------
  NVIDIA NVS 4200M          NVIDIA NVS 4200M
  NVIDIA NVS 5200M          NVIDIA NVS 5200M
  NVIDIA NVS 5400M          NVIDIA NVS 5400M
  NVIDIA Quadro 1000M       NVIDIA Quadro 1000M
  NVIDIA Quadro 2000M       NVIDIA Quadro 2000M
  NVIDIA Quadro K1000M      NVIDIA Quadro K1000M
  NVIDIA Quadro K2000M      NVIDIA Quadro K2000M

It installs to the C:\DRIVERS\WIN\VIDEO directory. Inside that there is a nvidia and intel folder. If I run the setup files in either directory, both say the devices on the laptop are not supported.

 

If I try to update drivers from Device Manager using the above folder, it says I have the most up to date version despite the version described in the readme file being as follows:

  Versions 22.21.13.8299  (NVIDIA Graphics Driver)
           1.3.34.27      (NVIDIA HD Audio Driver)
           10.18.10.4491  (Intel Graphics Driver)
           6.16.00.3154   (Intel HD Audio Driver)

According to Device Manager, I currently have the following driver files:

NVIDIA Graphics Driver:  22.21.13.8205

Intel HD Graphics Driver: 9.17.10.4459

 

The reason for trying to update the drivers are that currently Adobe Photoshop does not work on the laptop, it gives me a blank screen.

Sorry if you did this already.  Were you logged in with an administrator account?

 

Extracting file
  5. Make sure to be logged on with an administrator account.
  6. Locate the folder where the file was downloaded.
  7. Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click/double-tap it.
  8. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  9. In the Select Destination Location window, select Next. If you would like
     to select a different folder, select Browse.
 10. In the Ready to Install window, select Install. All the necessary files
     will be extracted to the folder selected in the step 9.

Correct I am logged in as an Admin.

 

The extract process goes as it should until I get to this screen:

but nothing has changed. I still have the old drivers. If I click finish at this point nothing happens.

Hello,

 

I do not have a ThinkPad W520 myself, but from looking around on nVidia's web site, it appears the latest drivers for the eight-year old Quadro 2000M graphics card are:

 

Enterprise (corporate stable): Quadro Desktop/Quadro Notebook Driver Version R375 U11 (377.83) (Released 2018.1.18)

Enterprise (new feature driver): Quadro Desktop/Notebook Driver Version R370 U1 (372.95) (Released 2016.9.27)

 

You might want to try installing the corporate stable driver, either directly from nVidia's web site, or through the Device Manager (filename: DEVMGMT.MSC) by right-cliicking on the driver under the Display Adapters tree and selecting Update Driver from the context menu that pops up.
