Re: NVMe Solid State Drive Firmware Update Utility for Windows

Worked for me. Smooth update. Congrats to you and your team.

Only hickup as after the restart, i ran the ATTO Benchmark. It errored out on after a few tests (it increases the size of the test block, it was the 4th or 5th): cannot read from disk. I clicked OK and closed the app (I don't have time to benchmark it now).

But on the next restart the screen went black, only the mouse cursor was available. CTRL-ALT-DELETE didnt work. This has never happened before, and I have not installed anything or updated any drivers recently.

Next restart it worked fine. So this might be or not related to this update, but I wanted to leave it registered here.

Thanks again

Re: NVMe Solid State Drive Firmware Update Utility for Windows

fwnv13 not working for me. Windows 10 64-bit with bitlocker. I tried with bitlocker suspended and not suspended.

Looks like the same errors I was seeing on prior firmware versions

"Firmware update was not processed because software condition is not ready to update due to some reason"

Is fwnv13 supposed to work with Bitlocker?

Yes, and it worked for me.  The difference with fwnv13 (on Win10) is that it should flash the firmware directly from within Windows, and not reboot to flash it from linux.  So what are you seeing?  Are you still seeing the reboot to linux?

Re: NVMe Solid State Drive Firmware Update Utility for Windows

Yes, it is still rebooting into Tiny Core linux for me. Here's what I'm doing:

* Unzip FWNV13.zip into root of C:

* Right click on C:\Manage Bitlocker

* Select "Suspend Protection" (not "Turn off Bitlocker")

* Run C:\fwnv13\FWNV13\fwwinsd.exe

* Dialog comes up to select the drive for update (Samsung MZVKV512 6L0Q curremt firmware)

* Click Start Update

* Warning dialog displays

* Click Ok

* About 5 dos boxes popup in succession

* Blue windows "Restarting" dialog appears

* System reboots into TinyCore

* Update fails as with prior releases

* System reboots and displays the error "Firmware update was not processed because software condition is not ready to update due to some reason" error

Are you on Win7 or Win10?  My apologies if you provided this detail previously and I missed it.

Win7 still has the problem, but Win10 should be OK.

If you are on Win10, have you installed some NVMe driver other than the Win10 built-in driver?  If so, which driver have you installed?

Re: NVMe Solid State Drive Firmware Update Utility for Windows

Windows 10 64-bit

Not 100% sure what you mean by NVMe driver. I'll list out what I see in Device Manager that looks relevant.

Device Manager
Disk Drives
NVMe Samsung NZVKV512
Driver: Microsoft 6/21/2006 v10.0.15063.0
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
Intel(R) 100 Servies/C230 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller
Driver: Intel 12/30/2016 v15.2.7.1042
Storage Controllers
Samsung NVMe Controller
Driver: Samsung 12/8/2016 v2.1.0.1611

Also, the Intel Rapid Storage Technology app doesn't show any drives in the Storage System View. I'm guessing since I don't have RAID this isn't a big deal.

Just let me know if you want any additional telemetry.

It looks like you installed the Samsung NVMe driver.  This may be a reason why the firmware update is still trying to use the TinyCore linux updater, which doesn't work with encryption.  We don't support the Samsung NVMe driver, so we don't test that case.  Please use the "Standard NVM Express Controller" driver in "Storage Controllers" (instead of the Samsung NVMe Controller).

Re: NVMe Solid State Drive Firmware Update Utility for Windows

Hello, I also have a Windows 10 64 bit. I have the same error when using FWNV13 to try and update the firmware on my Toshiba SSD. It is definitely still launching the Tiny Core (Linux).

Here are some additonal Device Manager Specs:

Disk Drives

NVMe THNSN5512GPU7 TO

Driver: Microsoft 6/21/2006 ver: 10.0.10586.0

No IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers listed

Storage Controllers

Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller

Driver: Microsoft 6/21/2006 ver: 10.0.10586.0

Standard NVM Express Controller

Driver: Microsoft 6/21/2006 ver: 10.0.10586.0

Any thoughts on why the firmware update is still failing?
