New W540 BIOS 2.28

Has anyone tried this update yet? I have an issue with my computer crashing when resuming from sleep ever since Windows 10 Anniversary Update. I want to make sure this update is safe so I can see if it fixes the issue.

I installed it and it seems to be working for me.

Re: New W540 BIOS 2.28

I installed 2.28 BIOS version on my W540 yesterday and my system crashed. I have Windows 7 64-bit, and it holds when it tries to load Windows. I cannot rollback to previous versions of BIOS since it is noted in the readme. I resetted my BIOS by removing the BIOS battery, but it did not work. I even tried to reinstall Windows, and it holds in the second screen, so it is not possible to reinstall windows (I even think that it is not Windows related). Any idea how to fix it?

Re: New W540 BIOS 2.28

Hi,

Are you running windows 7 in UEFI mode?  If so you need to enable CSM support in BIOS.  Without it both the installer and the installed OS will hang.

Re: New W540 BIOS 2.28

Hi, when I set the bios to UEFI only, then it cannot find the os or installation cd and asks for the boot order. If I set it to both (uefi and legacy) and boot priority is UEFI first, then same problem, hangs when it loads Windows. CSM is enabled for UEFI. What can I try now?
Thanks in advance.

Re: New W540 BIOS 2.28

If it doesn't find the OS in UEFI mode it's probably installed in legacy mode - so the CSM issue wouldn't apply.

Sorry I don't have anything else to suggest.  Hopefully others will.

Re: New W540 BIOS 2.28

Thanks for your help.. Do you think that it is possible to reinstall BIOS 2.28? When I try this, it says it is not needed. I strongly believe that there was a problem in the installation. However, I neither cannot rollback now, nor reinstall 2.28. I am totally stucked.

Re: New W540 BIOS 2.28

Here's something else to check.  Disable DEP.

Re: New W540 BIOS 2.28

Reading through that thread I linked, it looks like a bug or conflict of some kind.  It's been reported to engineering.
