P1 Gen2 brightness control not working

2019-10-06, 10:38 AM

Just received P1 gen2 a few days ago. Updated BIOS to latest 1.26, switched graphics to Discrete.

Brightness control no longer works in Windows 10 and brightness is set to approx 50% all the time.

Tried with Lenovo nVidia drivers and all available nVidia drivers for T2000, same thing.

What's going on?

If you switch the BIOS setting to "hybrid" (instead of "discrete"), does the brightness control start working?

Yes, brightness control works if Hybrid is selected in BIOS, but this still doesn't resolve the issue.

Understood, and we will fix this.  It's just something you can do for short-term if you need the brightness control to work until then.  Sorry for this trouble.

I ended up installing the latest DCH drivers off NVidia's website directly and it worked for me.

I had to disable Hybrid because my system screen kept going blank with the Intel GPU drivers that are installed.

Then there is the IR Camera...far worse than my P1 G1's IR camera. Either I have crappy drivers for it or the camera needs to be replaced.

Thank god for Premier Support - albeit, disappointing that they delayed shipping so long only to receive an unstable system and potentially defective IR camera.

Tried again with latest 436.30 drivers directly from nVidia site.

Not working for me unless Hybrid is selected in BIOS (1.26).

Sorry.  Hopefully Lenovo gets the drivers fixed ASAP.   It seems to me they are an unstable mess.

We found the bug about brightness and will fix it in the next BIOS version.  Sorry for this trouble.

Hopefully you find a bunch of other bugs as well.  Especially the IR camera, which is either far worse hardware replacement vs. the P1G1 Ir camera OR there are serious issues with the drivers.   You can add the Intel 630 GPU drivers as well.  I can't even run them.  I had to enable discrete in the BiOS and just use the NVidia GPU since the Intel GPU causes flashing of the screen - freezing on the mouse/cursor.

Should this be fixed in 1.27? Installed latest Intel and nVidia drivers from Lenovo Support and brightness still doesn't work. Was working last week, not so much now.

Same thing for me. My P1 Gen 2 (Intel only video) no longer has brightness control working with the latest Intel Video driver 26.20.100.752.

I see the same thing.  I'm so sorry about this.  I have reported this issue to P1 team.  How embarassing for Lenovo to keep having this same issue.

Re: P1 Gen2 brightness control not working

Brightness does not work since I've updated to BiOS 1.27 and latest Intel drivers (from Lenovo) were installed.  I had to change to Dedicated in the BiOS and use the NVidia drivers to get brightness control back.  But even with NVidia, it takes a few minutes for the brightness control to be availble - the screen remains dim, as though the screen needs to warm up first.

Even more frustrating is that I cannot install newer Intel drivers. Instead, I keep getting errors that the OS is not compatible.

Same case.

BIOS: 1.27

Intel Graphic Driver: 26.20.100.7529

Under "Hyrbid" mode brightness functional keys do not work but under "Discrete" mode they function normally.

P1 team please help check and fix the problem.

This is a bug in Intel graphics driver 26.20.100.7529.  We have withdrawn this version.

Please rollback to previous version here:  https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ch/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-extreme-gen-2/downloads/DS540278

Sorry for this trouble.

Re: P1 Gen2 brightness control not working

Hi, I had the same problem with Windows in one ssd and Ubuntu on the other ssd. After rolling back to the old Windows backup and also downgrading the Intel Graphics driver I'm now able to change the brightness on Windows, but I have no way to do it on Ubuntu. I tried a fresh intall of Ubuntu and Fedora, but the problem persists. I also tried to downgrade the bios from 1.27 to 1.26 and still I have no way to change the brightness on Ubuntu. I also updated the drivers on Ubuntu... no luck. My eyes are hurting with 100% brightness and I have a deadline next week... can somody help me out?

Having this issue too with the new intel driver update. Switching to discrete graphics has been the only working fix for me.
