P40 Color Calibration Problem - Newbie here seeking help!

2016-05-02, 18:42 PM

Hi!

Just got my new P40. Seems great and is much better than the MS Surface Book for accurate and delicate artwork. Seems like the best drawing tool I've had, but there are a couple of issues.

The color calibration as received is terrible. And I cannot adjust the gamma or the contrast it seems. Maybe it's dependent on which video card is running? I tried the Windows 10 calibration but I cannot change the contrast on the screen!  Even adjusting the gamma using the pattern DOES NOT change the calibration image any.

Perhaps I'm missing something? Perhaps someone could help? Unless I can calibrate the colors I'll have to return it -which I really don't want to do!

Still Trying to Color Calibrate a P40 Yoga. Help!

2016-05-02, 21:53 PM

Still trying to calibrate this machine but I'm failing miserably.

Can't seem to get a full grey and color and contrast scale. Tried it on a surface from MS. No problem.

Help!!

Can adjust contrast now but I cannot get a satisfactory calibration.

Has anyone here ever calibrated this model?

Which display do you have; FHD or WQHD? Besides using the built-in Windows calibration application, have you tried adjusting colors using the Intel display control panel instead? Have you tried using an external colorimeter and profiling software like an i1 Display Pro, ColorMunki or Spyder?

What is off about your colors? Or, is it only the contrast?

You can not improve display contrast ratio, it is hardware based. MS Surface has much better display quality in terms of contrast ratio and color space coverage:

P40 (FHD) http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-P40-Yoga-Workstation-Review.164885.0.html

Contrast: 954:1

Color Space (Percent of sRGB): 62

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 http://www.notebookcheck.net/Microsoft-Surface-Pro-4-Core-i5-128-GB-Tablet-Review.154419.0.html

Contrast: 1147:1

Color Space (Percent of sRGB): 97

You can try to use the ICC profile file from the review, if you have the FHD model.
