P50 BIOS Update - cannot find OS

When I try to update to 1.48 I successfully create a USB key but when I try to boot from it the BIOS states that it cannot find OS on it (I see that \EFI\Boot\BootX64.efi is present).

Re: P50 BIOS Update - cannot find OS

How did you build the USB stick?

Re: P50 BIOS Update - cannot find OS

  1. Go to download page of Lenovo
  2. Download executable and run it in Windows VM
  3. Plug in the USB key and attach it to VM as USB device
  4. Go to C:\Driver\something directory in PowerShell
  5. Run mkusbkey.bat E: or something like that (E: is letter assigned to USB key) according to instruction

Re: P50 BIOS Update - cannot find OS

It isn't a method I have used, so I cannot help.  Perhaps, someone else can assist.

Re: P50 BIOS Update - cannot find OS

Hello,

I have not experienced this myself (I run the binary update from within Windows) but the first thing I would check is the file system on the USB flash drive.

Has it been formatted with FAT32?  The UEFI spec only supports the FAT (FAT12/FAT16) and FAT32 file systems.

Regards,

Re: P50 BIOS Update - cannot find OS

Yes. I reformatted it before use (I had sysresccd there before). It also has bootable flag and type 0Ch.

Re: P50 BIOS Update - cannot find OS

Try turning the bootable (active) flag OFF.  It isn't necessary for EFI booting and may be confusing BIOS into trying to boot in legacy mode.

Doubt it, but it' s worth a try.
