My P50 was silent, but since I updated the BIOS to 1.29 (to get RAID capability), the fan seems to spin from time to time. I notice the noise as it sounds like a jet engine, each time running about 5-10 minutes before going silent again.
Spec: i7-6700HQ CPU, 64GB RAM, FHD screen, NVIDIA Quadro M1000M. Upgraded the OS from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro, and the standard 500GB HDD to 500GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD. Latest change between the fan noise is just the BIOS upgrade. Weird.

Think Engineering reports no thermal changes were made in the several last releases of BIOS/EC Firmware including BIOS v1.29.
To assist Lenovo with better understanding this issue, please provide the following information from BIOS or running msinfo32.exe:

The newest BIOS 1.30 solved the fan noise issue. It's as quiet as on the 1.28 BIOS.
If u still need the 1.29 configuration:
Ram: 32 (4x8), 1x8 original Lenovo, 3x8 aftermarket
no docking station, but connected to a FHD monitor + USB-docking.

Hi Amy. Thank you for looking at this issue. My P50 has i7-6700HQ CPU, 64GB RAM and no docking. I will try to update to 1.30 after confirming no installation issue from that BIOS on this forum. Thank you.

Just upgraded my P50 BIOS from 1.29 to 1.30. Will review the fan noise for a week and provide feedback here afterward. Thanks.

After applying BIOS 1.30 and few days of observation, I confirm that the fan is now quiet.
Thank you so much.
