Re: P50 Hard disk drive cable

Great! Now we're getting somewhere. Does anyone know how you can order this kit using the part number?

I tried ordering an M.2 SSD tray using a similar part number with IBM Spare Parts and they couldn't do anything with it, I had to specifiy an FRU.

EDIT: I just changed the /us/en/ in the link above to (in my case) /be/nl) and it seems to work. Going to try placing an order right now.

Interesting.  Not sure what the sponge was used for.  The sponge was on the bay and cover regardless of the original configuraiton.  So why we need extra sponge to install drives?

Also, do we know how many brackets are included in this kit?  One or two?

Well, my order just went through without any issues, estimated delivery time is 2 weeks.

Could it really be this easy? Well, easy would be including the kit with the $3000 laptop, but I guess I'll learn to live with it...

Glad to see the kits are finally showing up in stock.

Here's a breakdown of the BOM for the kit 4XB0L63274:

SB40H36018 - Bracket, HDD, 7.2mm;  qty = 1

SP40L63275 - pubs; qty = 1

SC10K4563 - HDD cable R, slot 3;  qty = 1

0000041A0535 - packaging; qty = 1

SC10K04566 - HDD cable L, slot 4; qty = 1

SM20L08773 - Sponge; qty = 2

With regards to the sponges, here's what I know.  P50 will ship from the factory with no sponges installed for HDD1.  Sponges are needed for HDD in HDD1 to provide "adequate protection" (I'm assuming this is from shock/vibration).

So if you're installing an HDD in HDD1, use the sponges from the kit and install like so:

If your plan is to install M.2 SSD(s) in HDD1, then remove the sponges to allow the drive trays to work correctly.  Sponges should come off by lifting with a flat blade screwdriver or something similar:

This is fantastic. Job well done Lenovo. This is one of the more extensive kits I have seen packaged together. Wished it would have been sooner, but, hopefully it was just an oversight in the production planning department. Thanks!

Agreed, great job. Put my order in for one so I can have three drives in my P50.

I will say this: it is great that this accessory is finally available.  I bought one just because it was so cheap.  However, during the time it was not available, I decided that the secret to the P50's success is its power, quietness, cool running mb and essentially its light weight.  Therefore m.2 drives are the key.  Once you put in an old mechanical HDD, you have butchered that minimalist workstation dream.

I think most of us are putting in SSD drives.  They are not mechanical and will make a perfect 3rd drive.

Am I able to get the 2.5 HDD kit in Singapore? The USA Lenovo site does not accept oversea purchase.
