Re: P50 Hard disk drive cable

2016-01-21, 4:20 AM

Tray/Cable whatever the case - As stated in my previous post - I mentioned the "SATA CABLE" was the $412 Unit.

As for the 798 FRU, I am also being quoted high. See below for full clarification of what Lenovo Quoted to me.

SSD TRAY - 00UR798 - $142.00 - AVAILABLE

HDD CABLE - 00ur835  - $412.00 - AVAILABLE

HDD CABLE - 00ur836  - $21.00 - NOT AVAIL/ NO ETA/ NO SUB

Per the price list below, $21 should be the "normal" price for the HDD cable.  I think $412 and $142 are either price error or due to low availability.

SSD TRAY - 00UR798 - $142.00 - AVAILABLE

HDD CABLE - 00ur835  - $412.00 - AVAILABLE

HDD CABLE - 00ur836  - $21.00 - NOT AVAIL/ NO ETA/ NO SUB

So it looks like the Field Replacement Unit prices are very high right now.  But the original part numbers are different than the FRU numbers.

The 00UR798 SSD Tray is original part number 4XB0K59917 at $9.99, while the FRU is quoted to you at $142.00 -- even though these are the same part.  I wonder why there is no "original" part number for the cables, only FRU numbers.  I guess that means Lenovo chooses not to sell the "original" part right now.

And then the price difference between the left and right bay cables is $391.00.  Weird!

Actually I don't know what it means, or what the heck is wrong at Lenovo.  They are not creating happy customers this way.

No no, please note - the 4XB0K59917 is for the M.2 SSD Tray, not the 2.5" Drive Tray.

Re: P50 Hard disk drive cable

Maybe I'm confused.  On the P50 FRU list, there is only one "tray" shown: 00UR798 - Tray ASM,SSD,w/screw.

The M.2 tray needs a screw to hold the M.2 SSD in place.  The 2.5 " HDD bracket in the training video needs no screw.  It snaps onto the HDD.  So I would think that FRU is the M.2 SSD tray.

Also, on the P70 FRU list, there is no tray listed.  The P70 2.5 HDD uses the same bracket to fit into the HDD bay (but needs no cable).

As far as I can see, there is no 2.5" tray needed in either machine.

OK, going to sleep now!

Phil - Check my previous posts here. You will see the visual reference from the user manual showing the drive+frame(tray)+sata cable in a screenshot I posted via the link.

I agree with Phil.  The "00UR798 - Tray ASM,SSD,w/screw" is NOT for 2.5" drive.  It's for the M.2 drive.  There's no screw needed for for the 2.5" caddy/tray/bracket/frame.  It's just a rubber band wrap around the drive (with rubber teeth plugged into the HDD's screw holes).

Confirmed with multiple Lenovo support that there's no FRU or part number for the 2.5" tray/caddy/bracket/frame.  It comes with the 2.5" drive only.  If you were to install your own drive, good luck on that.

Like I said before, you either wait for aftermarket product or DIY to make one.

Just need the cable ;-)

I think for now, anyone who plans to use a 2.5" + m.2 Setup, needs to order the system configs w/ the 500GB 2.5" Drive, which will give them the parts included, and then they can order the M.2 Tray easily to achieive their goals. I am considering sending mine back to obtain the system I need. I already have 1 dead pixel anyway.

Re: P50 Hard disk drive cable

2016-01-22, 12:58 PM

I wanted to provide a short update based on my findings during the last couple of days: As stated before (in this thread) I was checking back with my German retailer. They confirmed that the HDD caddy is not available separately and offered me to buy an official hard drive from Lenovo to receive this caddy.

But, additionally they suggested for my case (as I want to plug in a 2,5" SSD, no classic HDD) to use foam tape to attach the device safely.

They told me Lenovo is planning to offer a bundle - but there is no ETA available.

Furthermore they will inform me as soon as a cable is available, although they can only offer one for the left case (where the both M.2 SSD slots are). This cable, they told me, is usable for the right slot as well, but needs to be inverted for that, as on the left side the cable is connected under the device, while on the right side it needs to be positioned above it (as you can clearly extract from the several documentations referenced throughout this thread as well).
