P50 Trackpad left mouse button occasionally does not register

2017-05-24, 5:06 AM

I have this problem since day one, which was I think the end of December 2016. I have the latest synaptics driver, 19.3.4.83, I think.

This is the button closest to the front edge farthest from the keyboard.

When the mouse button fails to register, which happens around once out of 30 mouse clicks, I have found that when this occurs, every single time I move the cursor with either the trackpoint or the trackpad the click will take immediately effect. If I don't move the cursor the click never takes effect. Re-clicking the mouse button tends to also work.

I've searched the board and noticed that earlier versions of the driver caused multiple click events to fire from a single physical click.  Perhaps the driver update went to far in that direction.

Anyone else experience this?

I installed a ssd drive onto which I installed a lenovo win10 64 image for my model and let the lenovo companion app update everything: apps, drivers and bios. Windows 10 is at version 1607 build 14393.1198.

I have also experienced this since day one in February 2016. I think it is something wrong with the hardware / build quality. Another closely related topic is that the mechanical click noise generated when pushing the mouse buttons is noticeably higher than previous Thinkpad models.

The observations is related to Windows 7 and the trackpoint buttons.

This is still a regular and and increasingly frustrating occurance but I have recently found a way to cause the problem (a click not registering until the cursor is moved )  to occur with perhaps an 80% success rate that might help a diagnosis.  If I left click, (using the button underneath the track pad) and leave the button pressed for over ten to twelve seconds and relase it, the click does not register unless I move the cursor either by dragging a finger on the track pad or using the track point. Does that information help pinpoint the cause?  I have never duplicated this behavior with the button above the track pad.  The next step is sending it in for warranty service.

I sent the computer in to lenovo for service and they replaced the trackpad. The problem still persists.

I have this problem too.  Anyone ever figure out the solution to this?  Thanks.

Check the 'Advanced Mouse Settings'. It is possible there is a delay for the touchpad after typing or using the TrackPoint. You should be able to disable it there somewhere.

I don't own a ThinkPad P50, so unfortunately I can't try it myself.

Kind regards,

I solved this issue on my computer.  Make sure that ClickLock is turned off in mouse properties.

After the lastest synaptics driver update which fixed losing "clicklock", I noticed that when ever I was hilighting text the lifted the mouse button and moved the cursor, the hilighted text block would change with the mouse movement.  I searched for a mouse setting that would trap the mouse down after the mouse button was released and came up with ClickLock. I turned it off and voila.  I don't remember turning that setting on and yes, I do feel foolish.

But I finally get to enjoy this computer for the first time without frustration.
