P50 and SSD PCIe-NVMe

Does anyone know what brand/model/version of the solid state drive comes with a ThinkPad P50 configured with a 512Gb SSD PCIe-NVMe?

I called the support centre here in the Uk but they couldn't help.

I've seen lot of people tend to buy a cheap HD and then swap it with a Samsung 950 PRO NVMe M.2.

Could this SSD (950 PRO) be configured as primary (and only) drive?

Thanks.

Re: P50 and SSD PCIe-NVMe

If you order a 512GB PCIe NVMe drive in your P50 laptop configuration, you'll more than likely get a Samsung SM951 drive. You may certainly configure this to be your primary (and only) drive in your system.

Re: P50 and SSD PCIe-NVMe

Thanks for your answer.

If I wanted to upgrade to 950PRO myself what parts should I buy?

Thanks.

Re: P50 and SSD PCIe-NVMe

Are you planning to order the P50 system with an NVMe drive from Lenovo and then upgrading after-the-fact?

If so, the system should come with the correct carrier for the NVMe drive.

Re: P50 and SSD PCIe-NVMe

No, I was thinking to buy the cheapest HD and replace it myself with a 950PRO.

Re: P50 and SSD PCIe-NVMe

You'll need to order the SSD tray separately.
