Re: P50 buyer remorse?

@jdrodrig,

Did yours comes with the M.2 SATA or M.2 PCIe ? Would you mind checking if your tray has a thermal pad or not ?

Re: P50 buyer remorse?

Bingo! We have a winner! So the specifications are NOT the same (thermal padding for the PCIe SSDs) which is consistent with what I know as well. For those who have a SATA M.2 drive in the PCIe tray, I would order the correct part for that application.

P70 XEON 1505, BIOS 2.31, UHD 4k Display, 64GB non-ECC RAM, M3000M NVIDIA GPU, RAID 1 512GB Samsung 951 PCIe-NVMe SSD x 2, 2x Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SSD. EM7455 WWAN
P1. BIOS 1.23,Xeon Processor, 32GB, PM981 1TB x 2, RAID 1
T470s, 16GB RAM, BIOS 1.10, i7-7500, WQHD display, 512GB PM961 PCIe NVMe SSD

You are currect but only partialy because it seems that it is only the PCIe M.2s that Lenovo ships that require thermal padding. Currenly models handel don't disspitate as much heat. So, no need for the padding.

Re: P50 buyer remorse?

Very interesting yet intriguing. where is this padding ? Inside the plastic?. Maybe is ther and my middle age eyes did not see it

The m2 drive rests on the plastic attached with a screw. The tray rests on the chassis attached with a screw so i am confused about this padding.

@jdrodrig

It seems that you have the SATA trays. Would you mind answering which M.2 type you have ?

Re: P50 buyer remorse?

Thanks.

my p50 came with a pcie. I personally installed a m2 sata in the second slot using a tray that I am almost positive did not have any padding. Should I uninstall and buy a different tray?

@jdrodrig

I'd say, don't buy anything. There seems to be a lot of confusion going on about which try is the correct tray. Until we can definitely show that the trays are different, just stick to what you have. Yours got shipped in the same day you ordered ? That's incredible. Would you mind taking a picture of your tray so that we can have some empirical evidence.

Re: P50 buyer remorse?

@medwatt

sorry to report I sold my P50 a few days ago. all this display concerns talk in this forums biased me, and it was basically too much machine/weight for my use. I am leaning for the t460p or razer blade -I look forward to having QuadCore power in something easier to carry around, 4 pounds, 14 inches.

Re: P50 buyer remorse?

Do u think it's possible to add an aftermarket thermal pad into the tray? The PCIe M.2 SSDs generate much more heat then the SATA ones...

I'm running the factory 256 M.2 SATA SSD + the Samsung 950 Pro in another tray which is identical to the factory one.
