Re: P50 buyer remorse?

@jdrodrig

How can you be swayed by the opinions of others when you have the actual thing with you to judge by yourself. Anyway, I hope you didn't lose much money by selling. I did the opposite of what you did. I first ordered the T460p, realized that the P50 costs about the same with the T460p customized to my liking,  cancelled the T460p, ordered the P50. One thing you should note is that ideally the T460p supports only one storage in the form of a 2.5" SATA drive. There's an M.2 (2242, not 2280) slot that is designted as a WWAN slot. Some have been able to use it for a second storage device but info about what works and what doesn't is very sparse right now.

Re: P50 buyer remorse?

@Model

Would you please be generous enough to take a picture of your tray and the M.2 you have. I first want to see how the SATA M.2 SSD is connected. The PCIe slot seems to have a single notch, whereas the M.2 SATAs that I've found so far all have two notches.

Yes, the connector of the M.2 SSDs is a little different, as u mentioned.

I ordered that tray: http://ok1.de/ThinkPad-Zubehoer/Laufwerke/M-2-SSD-Tray-fuer-ThinkPad-P50-4XB0K59917::1031.html

The part number matches with the first one which is mentioned in post #16. The tray itself and the mainboard in the laptop slot seems to be exactly the same.

The P50 is open now so if u need more phots just let me know.

Re: P50 buyer remorse?

@medwatt

thanks. I confess I miss my P50 but realized the weight started to hinder my willingness to take it with me to the office and became a house hobby for which it is kind of overkilled. Also The palm rest breaks reported did not help my concept of durability.

i lost only about 7 percent Amazon take, the amount of the second m2 disk I installed and left inside (too lazy to remove it) and taxes so I think ok.

did you get to try the 460p? I am curious about screen quality

Re: P50 buyer remorse?

@Model

Thanks very much. Just two questions:

1. What's that white material on the back of the tray with PCIe M.2 ? Did you put that there ?

2. Do both of them connect to the same PCIe slots. Maybe you can take one more picture to show how both are connected.

Thanks once more.

I didn't get the T460p. Cancel it right about 5 days after I ordered it. It was supposed to arrive on August 12. I don't think you should worry about the screen unless you work with colors. People who usually comment in forums are the ones who have bad experiences.

Re: P50 buyer remorse?

@medwatt, just for kicks, and taking some liberty, here attached are what I think are the comparable options you might have in mind. I see the point of the price points crossing.

for screens, I tend to agree, it is just hard to adapt to lower "quality" panels, once I have been spoiled by SurfaceBook colors and brigtheness. I might be asking too much of for non-professional use of a panel.

Re: P50 buyer remorse?

@jdrodrig

To be honest, if the T460p supports a second storage drive, I would have stuck with it. I have no need for 64GB of RAM or a Thunderbolt port right now. The T460p only slightly less powerful but way more portable than the P50. Be aware that the 72Wh battery gives the T460p a slight inclination.

Re: P50 buyer remorse?

The white material is paper to cover warranty numbers and stuff - comparable to the picture in post #25.

Both of the packages (tray + M.2 SSD) can connected to both of the slots in the mainboard of the P50. I can swap anything in any place - the tray goes in any slot and the SSDs can go in any tray.

Is there any one with a tray which came with the thermal pad who can confirm if it's possible to just add an aftermarket pad to the tray?
