P50 equiped with Xeon E3-1535M v5 processor not available any more?

2016-05-02, 22:00 PM

Hi,

I was told that P50 with Xeon E3-1535M v5 processor is not available any more.

Is this really true?

If so, what are the reasons?

The reason is to reduce the size, and it increase battery life.

You can get an internal optical drive on the P70, but to my knowledge, there is not even room to put an optcical drive on a P50, so I think one fo the dealers is confused.

Good Luck

Thinkuser-2006,

I checked with the product manager for the P series and wanted to pass along the following information:

  • The 1535 is available in the US, but it’s not showing on the US website for Lenovo.com.  The product manager has sent a note to that team to get that CPU posted on the site so customers can build with it. Rather than wait, feel free to call in and work directly with a Lenovo representative to spec out a 1535 system. In the US you can reach Lenovo sales for ThinkPad Mobile Workstations at 1-855-253-6686.
  • At this time, the P50 Xeon 1535 processor is only available in EMEA. (Edit: 9/1/16)
  • Lenovo does not offer the 1545 or 1575 on P50. This is because both of these CPUs are paired with the Iris Pro graphics which requires a different thermal assembly than Lenovo designed for the ThinkPad P50.
  • While those CPUs are slightly faster (0.1GHz) than the CPUs paired with Iris graphics (P530), the trade-off to accommodate the bigger TDP didn’t make sense as the vast majority of Lenovo customers ask for discrete graphics and really don’t want/use the Intel integrated graphics in the first place.

I hope this information assists you with your purchasing decision.

Thank you,

Hi Amy,

Just called in to check with a sales rep. Both on the small business line and the personal line, was told that there was no option for E1535 on their end. Really don't want to put any money down on other configurations if its supposed to be impending. Any idea when it will drop?

Cheers,

George
