P50 reboots instead of wakes from sleep

2016-05-24, 17:07 PM

Frequently, when waking my P50 up in the morning, it will reboot instead of waking up from sleep.  Any suggestions?  It's very annoying to have to re-establish all of my programs, and I have lost data (I know, save early, save often)

Usually that means that Windows is actually Blue Screening with a "Stop 0x0000009F: Driver power state failure" upon entering Sleep, thus when you try to revive it must reboot.     If it is crashing, it should be creating <time/datestamp>.dmp files in the folder C:\Windows\Minidump (Windows 7/8), or a  MEMORY.DMP file in C:\Windows folder (Windows 10)

The first thing to try is to update your computer with the latest drivers from Lenovo using the Lenovo's ThinkVantage System Update Utility as usually it is a particular driver that is crashing, and updating the drivers may fix the issue.

Re: P50 reboots instead of wakes from sleep

2016-05-25, 18:10 PM

It happened again this a.m., so I looked at the event logs.  The only "helpful" data was this error message: "Windows failed to resume from hibernate with error status 0xC0000411."

The system had gone into hibernation at 3am (Hibernate from sleep, fixed timer).

I suspect that it may have to do with hibernating while off the dock and then waking up while on the dock -- but that's just a hunch.

The crash did leave a memory dump in c:\windows.  I'm downloading the DDK and Windbg to see if I can make hide-or-hair of it.

I'd post the dump file, but it's 2G :-)

Lenovo: if you want it, I can put it up on dropbox or something

Got Windbg installed.  Analysis is below.  Looks like our good friend "nvhda64v" (nVidia HD Audio?) is the prime suspect :-(

Re: P50 reboots instead of wakes from sleep

My current solution is to not allow hibernation (created a power profile without hibernation).

It's pretty annoying, though.    Before I updated the power plan, I lost everal hours worth of work because I got distracted with another task and the machine went to sleep.

The worst part is that between the hibernation issue and the display-won't-come-out-of-sleep issue (backlight turns on, no display), I dont TRUST my machine, and for something that I spend 8-10 hours a day with, that's not good, Lenovo.

Fix the drivers, or this, after 10 years, WILL be my last lenovo.

I understand your frustration. A workstation must be perfectly stable otherwise it is useless. It is just evidence that it is actually tested on customers :smileymad: On the other hand nVidia has always been more "toy" than "pro" hardware, I'd try to avoid it altogether.

Similar issue two years ago

http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/44129-3-different-bsods-when-system-waking-sleep-hibernate.html

The driver provided by Lenovo might be very old or the nVidia company is hopeless when it comes to produce working drivers.

I have the same issue on my Thinkpad p70 and there does not seem to be a solution that works.

I also consistantly have gfx card crashes that seemingly recover with a nice recovery message.

Any updates on this issue guys? I just got a brand new P50 and is doing this same thing. I have a few days to return it though.

Any information would be much appreciated.
