P50 will not boot to Windows

P50 will not boot to Windows 10 splash lock screen after a shutdown. Boots ok after a restrart.

After a shutdown press the power on button.

Lenovo icon badge displays and disappears.

Windows flag appears and disappears.

nothing else happens

Wait 30 seconds still  nothing. Screen is dark. Harddrive light is flashing. Have waited over 5 minutes. Nothing but disk light flashing.

Close the lid and wait 10 seconds.

Windows splash screen appears and I can login normally

This started happening after the last BIOS update. But I can not find any settings that make it work.

If I press the power on button and immediately close the lid. Wait 30 seconds and open the lid the splash screen will appear, and allow a normal login.

Need help.

Re: P50 will not boot to Windows

Long ago when I was playing with Win 10 I had the same experiences you are having. For me it was a video driver issue. It may be for you too. YMMV.

Re: P50 will not boot to Windows

Can you check if disabling fast startup can avoid the issue?

1.  Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options

2.  from left side, click on "Choose what closing the lid does"

3.  near the top, click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable"

4.  near the bottom, uncheck the option about "turn on fast startup"

5.  click on "Save changes" button

6.  does the problem still happen?

Re: P50 will not boot to Windows

I am sorry I can not. I tried to download a back level display driver and install it. Had a hard time finding one on the Lenovo Support site. Finally found one and then the system would not let me install it. It does not want you to install back level drivers. I could not find a way to make it install the old driver. So I gave up and did a chkdsk /r to check the integrity of the hard drive followed by a recovery  system restore of a September windows update event. It restored without error and now I am downloading and installing all the things installed and updated since mid September. But boot is working correctly.
