P70: Help - Black screen after Windows Update of Clean Windows Install

2016-12-20, 1:49 AM

Yikes a clean Windows install on my P70 is turning out to be an adventure. Everything was going fine until the the Windows anniversary update and now when Windows boots up the 4K 17" laptop display is completely black (blank). Anyone know how I can ressolve this?

If I plug in an external monitor into the HDMI port I see the laptop output on the external monitor but the laptop's LCD display is completely black. It does not even let me change the resolution of the laptop display as it just shows the laptop resolution as 640X480 and even that is greyed out.

It seems Windows is completely incapable of recognizing the Laptop's 17" display.

Look at your BIOS settings.  If set for hybrid graphics, try discreet.  Or vice-versa.

Try reinstalling again.

I seem to have fixed this issue just now. It was the stupid idiotic fast boot setting in Windows. After turning that off and installing Windows updates the primary laptop display is functional again. Really good thing I had an external monitor and a HDMI cable handy or I would not be able to interact with the laptop to fix it.
