I want to install a Samsung 960 EVO - 500GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 SSD as the primary boot drive of my P70. Can someone please confirm this newly released SSD from Samsung is compatible with the P70. Seems like Amazon is sold out so I'll need to finnd this drive elsewhere to order.

So really no one is waiting for the Evo 960 SSD to come out? I preordered the 1TB version to install as the primary boot/system/Applications drive in my P70 and I'm waiting for the Evo 960 to be released this or next week.
I just hope it will be compatible with the P70.

I can't answer this question, but I definitely monitoring as I wish to get one also for my P50.

I have one on pre order on two different retailers. So hopefuly I will get mine soon.
Will update on how the Evo 960 works with the P70. If anyone has any tips or BIOS settings for getting the Evo 960 to work effectively please let me know.

2) UEFI BIOS N1EET62W (1.35 ) 2016-11-10
3) Embedded Controller N1EHT36W (1.16 )

Cheers and thanks for any advice. Mike

Yikes I hope I don't run into an issue like this with my P70. I ordered the 1TB Evo 960 and Amazon just emailed me telling me they are receiving new stock and I can expect to receive mine on Tuesday.
Has anyone else been able to install an Evo 960 on a P50 or P70? Are there any new BIOS/firmware updates I should do prior to installing the EVo 960?
It seems someone has already managed to get the 960 Pro to work succcesfully so the 960 Evo should technically work.

Both the 960 EVO and the 960 Pro should work. But we know the 960 Pro will not have all features working in a ThinkPad:
The 960 EVO is probably based on the PM961 currently furnished by Lenovo in ThinkPads. But at this point we have no way of knowing what the differences might be or if some features are unavailable, just like with the Pro version. I would like to add a 960 EVO to my P50, but not if it lacks power management and thermal management.
Maybe Amy will reply in the above thread. Or here.

I have a new P50 and 2 Samsung NVMe 960 EVO m.2 devices.
Tried a 240gb 960evo, purchased for another machine in the P50 with 960 pro in place as well, it was recognised no trouble.
I did find that seating the 960 Pro in NVMe slot 0 required a considerably firmer push than slot 1. Initially I got PCIe 3x2, then 3x4 after better seating.
I think the M2 bracket assembly is kludgey enough to allow inadequate seating of the SSD and the dimensional tolerances on my P50 960 PRO combo are likely at opposite ends of the range.
Check your drives one at a time in each NVMe slot and see what you get. Maybe your seating is worse or maybe it is something else entirely.
