P70 died.

Hi. Last night my P70 died while plugged into the charging brick. The battery was down to 0% and wouldn't do anything even though it was plugged in. When I unplugged it from the back of the machine and plugged it back in it started charging and booted up.

Today the machine has shut down while in the port replicator several times but only after it was idle for a while. Ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: P70 died.

Sounds like a flaky power supply -- either the brick itself, connecting cable(s) or motherboard circuitry.

What does Lenovo tech support say about this?

Re: P70 died.

I haven't called yet. I decided to see if it happens again. I'm guessing it's the mb since I didn't get any results unplugging it from the wall but when I unplugged it from the back of the machine and plugged it back in the charging light came back on. It was on a different power supply today, at work, when it died.

Re: P70 died.

my P70 would stop responding to my input when it goes idle for a while. It can only be woken up by shutting it off and then turning it back up again.

Are you using windows 10 or windows 7?

Re: P70 died.

I'm using windows 10. I think what you're describing is what was happening in my office yesterday. I went through all the power options after it happened the third time and made sure that the hard drives don't shut down and the display never shuts down. That hasn't happened since. I also left it on again last night and this morning it was still running and the battery was still at 95%. I'm going to keep my eye on it. I've only had it 10 days so if I have trouble with it doing this again I'll probably send it back and get another one.

Re: P70 died.

it is probably to do with the power management firmware/software issue, not a hardware specific fault. So getting a new machine won't really solve this issue.

Re: P70 died.

I've gone through and adjusted all the setting to what I want and so far it hasn't happened again. For some reason my screen save changes every time I reboot. Something strange going on and it probably is software.

Re: P70 died.

In response to your screensaver resetting after rebooting, I found a command script that was executing on startup that was resetting it.  If you start Task Manager and navigate to the Startup Tab, look for SetScreenSaver.cmd, right-click it and choose Disable.  Then configure your screensaver settings and they will persist.

Re: P70 died.

Thank you! That fixed the screensaver resetting.

Re: P70 died.

Is this command part of the Lenovo preload or is it a standard feature of Windows 10?
